I'm considering buying an auto s14 and was wondering how difficult it is to convert it from an auto to 5 speed. I plan on doing some very occasional weekend track racing (2 x per year). If anyone has experience with this, I would like some recommendations.
Is it even a good idea to change it or should I just buy a 5 speed to start with?
About how much would it cost to convert the trany?
Is it reliable to do a trany conversion and what problems have people had with them?
Thanks

i 'sorta' did somethin like this. i got a motor out of a car that had an auto trans hooked up to it. i put the motor in my car and put my 5 speed onto it. i still dont know what the hell is wrong with it. i couldnt get the pilot bearing to fit in and couldnt see the 'auto bushing' that everyone was talking about... ended up grinding the pilot bearing down and shoving it in. i looked at my old motor and it looks the same as the new one... so yea i would advise against this.
i mean, i had my car on the road... but it was making a sound that we thought was the throwout bearing. so i put all new clutch and throwout in. then it stopped going into gear or something, couldnt figure it out. it felt like the hydrolics were messing up. so i put in a new master and slave.
i bled it out forever. its bled. no air. but i still dont feel pressure in the pedal. it hardly wants to come back up. so i had my friend press the pedal up and down while i watched the slave. the slave goes fully in and out with the pedal, but the pedal still doesnt wanna come back up. i dont know whats wrong
ahhhhh

#1 Idea is search
#2 its not that hard to do...
You will need a transmission, pilot bushing, clutch pedal assembly, clutch, flywheel, tranny plate, 5sp tranny mount, manual driveshaft, clutch master, clutch slave, clutch lines, and either cut the auto brake pedal or get new brake pedal assembly. Besides bolting everything up you will have to cut a hole in the firewall for the clutch master, and pull the auto tranny bushing... its hard as hell to get out in my experience. If you put your finger in that hole you will feel a ridge, and thats all you can grab onto with the slide hammer to get it out.

its not that hard like the other people said. But its way easier if you get a 5spd engine and tranny then all you gotta do is pull your old beat automatic engine and tranny out then install the new motor with 5spd trans. But if you cant do that then just get a 5spd trans and have fun pulling out that bushing, and getting the flywheel bolts and transmission to engine bolts because the automatic trans bolts dont work with bolting up the 5spd trans. If you have any other questions you can msg me ive done it to my s13 a yr ago.

junk yards are your friend dude. nissan oem new parts will charge you grip, 240sxmotoring.com and pdm racing websites are your friend for drivetrain products that you need for auto to manual swap. other than that, just wait for someone to swap, junkyard, etc.

The biggest problem with my swap is that 1.) no1 has a manual driveshaft for an s14, and the Driveshaft Shop is having a hell of a time getting yokes 2.) Nissan service department people are retarded and cant get the bellhousing bolts 3.) no1 sells the size starter bolts I need so I need to buy a die and extend the threads and cut off the excess
