Drunk Dad Designates Son, 11, to Drive Him Home in Alaska
Friday , August 31, 2007

FAIRBANKS, Alaska —

A father who was too drunk to drive had his 11-year-old son drive him home, police in Fairbanks, Alaska, said.

Police stopped the boy late Tuesday after he was seen driving the wrong way on a one-way street in his father's 1992 Chevy pick-up truck.

The boy's father, Frank Neff, 35, of Fairbanks, was too drunk to drive and had told the child to drive them home, authorities said.

Neff pleaded no contest to charges of reckless endangerment and contributing to the delinquency of a minor in connection with the incident. He was ordered to spend 15 days in jail and to take parenting classes.

He told police he's been teaching his son to drive since he was 8 years old.

Sweet if ya ask me! I mean is frickin Alaska. There are like 20 cars for him to get in an accident with. Pretty good training grounds

As stupid(or drunk) as the dad was for letting the kid drive on the street like that, its not uncommon for kids to be able to drive or ride equipment in Alaska. I was born in SE Alaska and I remember being shown how to drive the truck if my dad was ever in an accident while we were hunting or something. Of course, that wasn't in a city like Fairbanks...

I think we're missing the point, here. He taught his son to drive for 3 years and he couldn't teach his son what a 1-way street is?

what a lie, lol, after teaching his boy to drive for 3 years you would think he would understand how to read directions of arrows that say one way lol.

This summer I visited Alaska with my dad, they let 10-year olds pilot airplanes, seriously, supposedly every 3rd person in Alaska knows how to fly an airlplane, every 4th person owns an airplane, and every 5th person has a pilot's license, haha. I saw a kid that looked like he was about 12 speeding in an STi on a twisty mountain road, they have so many fun roads, plus 23 hours of daylight in the summer ruled. Long cold snowy 23-hour darkness winters must suck though.

maybe he was just following the route his dad always drove. maybe it's a mega shortcut to take that street the wrong way or something

This may be the high heels talking, but I never really thought they'd have one-way streets in Alaska... really.

i remember taking my dads mr2 out when i was 12 (8th grade) whithout him knowing. i took my friend home and went to a girls house to show off, all within a 2 mile range. i was super nervous but felt super cool.

maybe the kid was buzzin too, cuz even i knew what "one way" meant at that age.
