View Full Version : help! pw, sunroof, gauges, and stereo not working.
as i was doing my timing, i checked my spark plug's gap from cylinder 1. forgot to put it back in (put the plug in though) and started it up. the plug popped out as i cranked it and then the engine no longer started up. i thought it was the fuses, so i checked the fuse box in the engine bay and under the dash. eventually figured out that i had to hit the started to knock it loose. engine now starts and timing is good, but now pw, sunroof, gauges, dome light, and stereo ar'nt working. went over the two fuse boxes multiple times, doesnt seem like theres any blown fuses. has anyone troubleshoot this problem before? are there any other fuses i should be checking? also, how can i tell if a relay is out (since they're not clear and all)? and could this cause my alternator to stop working? cause it doesnt seem to be charging anymore. any help will be appreciated! thanks!

check your wiring. might want to get a test light also. theres a plug that connects into the altenator.there are 2 wires on that plug. one i think is red, and the other is white with a red stripe. the "red" on is connected to the positive terminal on your battery and the white/red one goes to the interior fuse box and eventually gets grounded.
or recheck those interior fuses

check fuses! all of them. you'd be suprised where some things run to.
after checking both fuse boxes with a test light, i found that the Audio, Hazard, and Starter Signal fuses under the dash didnt light up. i replaced the fuses and still the test light doesnt light up. any clues?

faulty ground?
i took off the alternator and got it tested today. turns out, its still a good alternator. also, as the engine was on, i unplugged the battery and the engine just died. where would i check the grounding for this?

I Had the same problem when i did my swap? I found out that it was the alternator fuse in the Fuse Box by th battery, its the 75amp one i think. Swap it out and ill fix your problem.
i tested all fuses with a test light and they seem to be working. ill give it a shot anyways though. thanks
84GTSR5, i tried swapping that fuse and nothing happened. any other clues?

helped on the car, now the window problems are fixed. somehow, the instrument panel lights (mil, oil press, srs, etc.) are not coming on. when I play with the fuse box, move back and forth, the lights will come on, then when I move it, it will go out. with the lights are on, on the cluster, with car running, alt. is charging around 14.0 volts. with lights on cluster off/dead, the alt is charging 12.0 v. do these 240's these years (97-98) have known problems for fuse box going bad?? thanks, I am helping BEE on his car.
also, can someone give me a link to electrical schematics for 97-98 240's?? thanks.
