Before i really start playing around with drifting would it be smart to get front and rear sway bars? or front and rear strut bars? I the car seems to be pretty rigid and low to the ground but i dont want it to end up upside down/

i doubt youd flip over...just practice in a big empty parking lot with lots of room and no light posts

my question is how the #### do you dirft? somthing about steer quickly one direction and then the other... makes no sense to me, teach me mastar...
Yeah what zephyr said and I'll add wet...big wet empty parcking lot with lots of room and no light posts. Its easier to learn control sliding when its wet and you can do it at much lower speeds. I am still uncomfortable sliding my car on a dry road :\
Edit: <a href="http://www.driftclub.com" target='_blank'>http://www.driftclub.com</a> site looks like its down now but it tells you a bunch of different drift techniques...I won't try to explane since I can't really do it <img src="http://www.zilvia.net/f/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=':)'>

in my opinion you will go spinning wayyyyy before you flip as long as there is no surface change. be carefull, do it with no cars or posts or PEOPLE around in the rain in a big parking lot - have fun

It doesn't matter if you have a stock car or not you can drift anything (even ff, and 4wd even though theyre a little harder) Its better if you're starting out if you have a stock car because a stock car has less grip and its easier to learn how the car "moves". Once you're able to drift pretty good then you can start setting up the suspension for your own style. My suggestion is the first thing you get on your car is an LSD. Whether its a stock viscous or an aftermarket mechanical it makes a big difference when you practice drifting. Don't let people tell you that you need power to drift because thats not true. My cousin used to drift a KP61 starlet back in the day and we used to drift a nonturbo 1.8 silvia thats weaker than the ka version from the States. the best way to start is to just do donuts. Just keep doing them and then start trying to control the size of the circle that you travel. When you start getting a handle on things you might want to place a cone in the middle and control the drift. Don't ever go out into the road and just try to drift like they do in the video because you gotta remember those guys that are on the videos have alot of time and practice under their belts. Also try and find a dirt lot where you can practice and get a feel for the car. Remember PRACTICE
About the only advice I can give you is to get a cheap junker and take it out on some dirt tracks in the country, learn to brake hard into corners to get the nose down and power through the last 2/3rds.
If your looking to do it on tar, use a race track as theres less to hit and the road surface is uniform, if its not then you can risk ending up in someones front yard or around a power pole which dosnt look 'kewl' <img src="http://www.zilvia.net/f/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=':)'>
Nothing more un-fun than a corner which changes camber like the one outside my front door, in the last week theres been a Civic, an S2000 day before yesterday and lat night an MG convertible flipped and hit the traffic lights.
If your really serious start talking to some others about getting adjustable camber suspension and castor rods as well as some heavy duty bushes in your diff.
Apart from that, its expensive and expect break lots of stuff <img src="http://www.zilvia.net/f/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=':)'>

if you *really* wanna learn how to do it right i'd suggest taking one of the bmw driving techniques courses
they're expensive as #### but they teach you how to control a drift as well as other racing techniques (and survival techniques) and you get to learn on a bimmer
Figure 8's are good for control too and here's another site I dug up <a href="http://www.club4ag.com" target='_blank'>http://www.club4ag.com</a> and more specifically <a href="http://www.club4ag.com/faq%20and%20tech_pages/Drifters%20Life.htm" target='_blank'>http://www.club4ag.com/faq%20and%20tech_pages/Drifters%20Life.htm</a> hrm, I'm gona have to read that one...never seen it before.

well i am not a pro drifter or anything like that but i can pull a mean drift on open turns. THis is what i used to do in my Rx-7. On right turns (mainly because its easier) where there is a lot of space, i cruz to about 35 mph then when its time to turn, you quickly and i do mean quickly yank the steering wheel right and pull the e-brake hard and release it back down quickly. i would be in 2nd gear. While i release the ebrake i slam the gas down to the floor. When you get your car screaming sideways, turn your wheel all the way to the left. You gotta ajust your steering according to how sideways you are. It takes a lot of pratice. Ive hit so many curbs doing that not to mention i would always do a 180. But after the 10th time or so i got the hang of it. Now if you want to do that crazy drifting down the mountain (i.e. drift right then drift left) continuously, i would say you are crazy cauz that is scary. I almost fell of the side of a cliff trying to drift down the mountain at 60 mph. Pratice pratice pratice, that is the only thing i can say. Anyways that is how i drift, there are other ways also. Like the heal toe thing but i am no good at that. its harder that way.

My truck is simple to drift with. The car is hard as ####. The back tires don't want to break loose and if they do you're goind too fast to drift. Of course my car was dropped had adj struts and low profiles of 17's. I did have fun coming down the mountain though. I just popped it in neutral and got in the fast lane and people just got out of my way. I did between 80-100 all the way down.
