View Full Version : Power steering pressure hose

I can NOT get the lower connection loose on the power steering pressure hose. It is where the hose meets the hardline (like the ones on the BMC). I have drenched it in PB blaster, tried locking pliers, tried locking pliers + line wrench, and the LINE WRENCH is starting to ROUND THE FITTING.
It's leaking from right below the metal part where the top of the hose goes to the power steering pump. I'm going to have to pay someone to change it I guess. The thing leaks badly, as in like every other extended stop = filling the fluid back up.
I changed my water pump and thermostat, and I'm waiting to install my intake because without the intake in the way it gives more space. I'll drive it straight to a shop, but I'm hesitant to drive it around locally, daily.
Anyone have any ideas before I pay someone to do it?

i had the same problem, but lucky for me i needed to put a new one on anyways. i just cut mine then used a deep socket and it came right off.

Well, I saw a guide where the guy removed the whole the hose + hardline as one piece, but there's shitty clearance around the other end of the hardline.

Vise-grips.
Worked for me, and only skinned one knuckle.

Just pick up one of those MA motorsports PS lines. Clears up some room in the bay and it's waaay easy to install AND it's here on zilvia.

And it's three times the price for only a portion of the line. Retarded. Any decent hose shop can make the same thing for 1/10th the price.
Neej, I can take a look at it tomorrow if you want, I'm finally free from a long job and have some time.

Someone else asked me that, but I was kind of hesitant doing that so close to the engine, around leaking ATF + oil gunk. :(

I got the bastard off. I had to remove the hose + hardline from the steering rack...took it off once I got it off. Had to remove the AIV for more space and the whole process was a PITA.
Thanks guys.

As long as you can take the pressure hose off (the one that attaches to the power steering pump) from the hardline without problems, you'll be ok. That was the only thing that held me up.

Flush it and put the correct fluid in it. 99% chance some fool put regular PS fluid in it, gumming up the lines and the bearings within the pump.
