Theres a guy out here whos gung-ho about his JZX90. Track, mountain, drag, all done with automatic tranny (OSW). Grant knows who im talking about, hes a dork but i gotta give him props on how he drives that thing. He drives it better than some people ive seen who drives with a 5 speed swap.

Japanese will drive any car anywhere. I've seen dude's drifting Toyota Platz and other kei cars (hell I've done it myself), I know a guy that goes to my local hang out and races a bone stock, Toyota Platz up and back all night, The same guys racing through that road at 200 kp/h in a GD8 STi are hitting that road in a Wagon R Tuesdays as well.... Just cause the Japanese do it doesn't make it right.

At one point I thought that VIP cars were cheap, that I could easily afford one over my S13, and the most expensive part about it was the wheels!

However, this is not the truth. There are still nice Lexus' and Infinitis that people modify that go for 12k and up. Not only that, people are modifying the NEW chassis that come out every year.

The wheels on the car that are USED are usually cheap, heavy, and really big.

The new shit however, is ballin'. Sets of wheels go for upwards of 5k.

The suspension is NO JOKE. To go that low is fuckin MONEY, those guys use universal airbag systems that cost about $4,000. They use adjustable suspension arms just like we do. Not to mention they use relatively large tires (19s, 20s) and stretch them while running crazy camber angles -6* or so (imagine the uneven wear on that).

But none of that stuff compares to the amount of man hours they put into the custom chassis/body work they do to fit ridiculously wide wheels with ungodly negative offsets.

Radiused fenders, crazy fender pulls, widebodies, etc. It's nothing that you haven't seen on this board, but they actually use real paint.

I think that VIP style is cool if you want a cruisin' car, but don't want to buy American. I have an appreciation for the amount of work that is done, and for the techniques they use, that spread over to us.

Vip is clean non race looking cars, it doesn't only have to be 4doors. take a toyota soarer for example, not only its a two door, but it will look good if its done up race, or vip. VIP "style", as interpreted by a lame white guy in America, but I feel it's pretty accurate.

-4 door
-Big, big cars. Full size sedans, usually V8.
-Japanese cars, Toyota, Nissan. (Lexus, Infiniti)
-Clean body.
-Clean paint, usually a non-color like black, grey or white.
-Low. Lower than low. Sitting on the exhaust pipes low.
-Name brand parts, nothing is knockoff.
-Flat faced, big lip wheels. SSR Vienna's are super duper common. Many work Euroline wheels.
-Two tone is common among VIP style cars.
-No stickers, EMBLEMS are okay, usually of the company that made the Aero or accessories.
-Black, or dark tinted windows.
-Luxurious interiors, usually adorned by window curtains, dash tables, cup holders, diamond studded air fresheners. Usually leather or suede.
-Air bag system, so that the car can sit on the frame when it's parked then drive around.
-Fitment, whatever it takes to fit the biggest, most aggressive wheels. Pulled fenders, insane camber, tubbed fenders, chassis modification insane.
-Usually large dual tip, dual exit exhausts.
-The car has to exude class, and money. The combination of the above items usually does this. But everything must scream VIP or Richness. The wheels MUST be expensive, fit, and always be clean. The car must be clean. The paint must be glossy and deep. The interior must be lavish. Chrome highlights abound. LED tail lights. HID headlamps. Loud stereos. Whatever it takes to look RICH and get NOTICED. It's like an exaggerated limousine. People must stop and STARE when you pull up.

Oh and I know who's s13 coupe that is, where do you think I got my hood?

That is a VIP "style" s13 for the following reasons:
-Fitment, he's running 18x19 stagger, and the wheels are more aggressive than BN Sports own fucking cars. He's done extensive chassis modification to fit those wheels. Tubbed fenders. 9 degrees of camber. Wider fenders. etc etc.
-Name brand parts. BN sports hood. BN sports REAL aero. BN Sports REAL fenders.
-Low. His steering rack is about 1/2" off the ground.
-Will eventually have nice paint, straight body.

This by no means makes the car VIP. But it does have VIP elements, just like Herb's cars, there are properties that are shared with the VIP style.

Useless? What exactly was this car being "used" for? Drifting? No. Drag? no. Grip? no. It's obviously used to drive around and look cool, of which I think it suits this purpose well. Let's assume you're generalizing about VIP in general, and comment on your posts in relation to VIP style.

I assume that you mean by useless that it is too low, and too flush to drive around town. As you can see in the video above, VIP cars CAN drive!

As stated previously, these cars usually have air suspension that makes them LOW as hell in pictures, but when they drive around they can adjust their ride height to clear obstacles. I know, I have ridden in one. This is how it is done.

The wheels I'm sure make the car handle a little funny, the camber and height he's running probably do all kinds of weird shit to the suspension dynamics, but who cares? They aren't going to be winning any time attacks, but really, who cares?

These cars are made for getting in on a weekend, driving to the club or restaurant and driving you home. They probably mostly just see the freeway. I doubt you're going to be delivering pizza in a VIP car, or off roading. That is not the purpose these vehicles suit.

Just cause the Japanese do it doesn't make it right.

I don't believe that you have to have 4 doors as you can vip many 2 door offerings from MB and BMW. Hell even the SC430.

Owning both a fully done 240sx and a 2003 Lexus GS I know I can turn my GS into a drift car but not a 240sx into a VIP car.

I like how a bunch of guys in here who've never been in Japan and have no clue are trying to explain something.... VIP is a trim of Toyota Crown and Nissan President that old guys roll around in, VIP cars are cars Yakuza roll around in to show off their money.

i dont want to get into any debate, i will just word out what the guys at VSC.com say...

they have had a million debates about ti over there, and the trend that i'm most seeing is that yes, its gotta be clean, this that and the other thing... but most important of all, the CAR has to be a/the flagship car for the company (ie - top of the line, rather expensive in comparison to the rest of the fleet, yadda yadda...)

so in closing,. the 240sx is not the flagship of nissan...or even flagship-esque...


disclaimer - for example... infiniti has the q45, and m45.... a g20 would not be their top of the line, therefore, no matter what you do, it couldnt be VIP...

The only thing I find kind of humorous about this style is how so much money is spent on crazy cup holders, tables, TV's, and random things for the passengers, it's like building a car for someone else instead of for yourself, and many of these vehicles never see a passenger anyway, haha. If the owners enjoy chaperoning people around in their car, I guess that's a different story. Oh well, it still looks really nice.

I guess it's about the lifestyle as well, if you can spend the money on all the extra unnecessary goodness without blinking or looking back or ever missing that money, then I guess this is for you, this is a car style that truly separates the people who can afford it and the people who can't, which is a good way of weeding out the posers, haha.

IMO 2 things:

1. The Herb Real (iirc) cars are my favorite examples of the VIP style (or VIP for real, whatever) type. SMOOOTH, great paint, excellent condition, etc etc (and with power to boot I'd assume). I don't think it much matters what car for VIP style, as long as it's pulled off to that degree.

2. There's not much cooler than a tastefully dropped, big wheeled luxery car. Mmm Mmm.

Now for one question: (not hating, just curious)

-How on EARTH are these things even remotely daily driven? Is it a Southern California/Florida deal only? Those cars wouldn't last a DAY anywhere in the Northeast...our roads rip apart stock aero/bodied cars, and bend OEM 17's at times... let alone kitted ground scraping cars with 20's.

1. The Herb Real (iirc) cars are my favorite examples of the VIP style (or VIP for real, whatever) type. SMOOOTH, great paint, excellent condition, etc etc (and with power to boot I'd assume). I don't think it much matters what car for VIP style, as long as it's pulled off to that degree.

2. There's not much cooler than a tastefully dropped, big wheeled luxery car. Mmm Mmm.

Now for one question: (not hating, just curious)

-How on EARTH are these things even remotely daily driven? Is it a Southern California/Florida deal only? Those cars wouldn't last a DAY anywhere in the Northeast...our roads rip apart stock aero/bodied cars, and bend OEM 17's at times... let alone kitted ground scraping cars with 20's.

who wouldnt want to drive a car that you put together and enjoy it? I drove the 240 almost everyday to work,go out, run errands etc etc (From Jun-i sold it).I love the car since i got plenty of people asking me what kinda car it was until i told them it was a 240, heck i got 2 older infiniti enthusiats that complimented me on how it was european looking since the supermade shape was "Euro"ished design to them. Henry's coupe is the one to see. It has the "hugging stance" one the road when its rolling on the freeway. BTW, he's got best of both worlds (aero and performance).

The reason why i didnt want to spend on engine/work is because i had priorities to take care of, fuel costs, long time downtime if i went through the vq swap, budget wouldnt match my asking price since i was gonna ask way too much if i did, etc etc and now that they were all set in, Then I bought a Q that thinking of keeping it in a while but a family member was in need of financial help so the 4 door has to go.

Really, i imagined building a different schemed 240 because it was to my liking. I was here to share it to you all and this is driven (bay area roads are pretty harsh) but not on track. ill keep you guys updated when its all finished with a 2jz swap in a couple of months from the new owner.

Thank you guys for appriciating the car, i do miss it specially with the supermade exhaust that i installed a week after it was purchased. crazy exhaust i must say.

It's cool if you guys don't like my Z, but let me clear a few things up, I know the front bumper is desighned after the db7 but if i was really trying to make it look like a astin martin, i would have bought the DAMD fenders, skirts and grill, instead of putting the cf vent in, painting the opening of front bumper black, going with the INGs rear, fenders and wing, Wald side skirts, VIP mirrors.

I just read a article that talks about all this, a new style in Japn that is a VIP-influenced sport compact styling know as 'LUX', where they're taking 350z and rx7(like the one in this pic), ect... and combining sport compacts and the VIP style

My .02- I think that your car should be a reflection of who you are. Some ppl have flashy cars, because they're flashy themselves. Some are strictly functional, because the owners are methodical that way. Others just go the bandwagon way just because it makes them "cool" or "part of the scene". In the end, the car is gonna be the way you want it, and as long as what you have makes you happy, then no one can judge you for it. Just my opinion though.
