225 or possibly 235, though 17x7 is terrible wheel size for a 240, and it will look even worse with balloon tires. That's just my opinion, no offense.

I have 17x7 5Ziegen wheels w/ Eibach Sportlines and KYB-AGX struts.
Currently, I'm running 215/45/17 on the front and 245/45/17 on the rear.
It all depends on the offset of your wheels and suspension upgrades and if you're running a staggered pattern as I am. I'm about maxed out on the front and rear.
The 215, the sidewall is almost straight up from the lip of the wheel. The 245 is bulged quite a bit. I've auto-x on this tire combo and it did great.
If you're looking for a wide tire that will still clear your strut/fenders, etc...and run the same pattern tire all around, you may want to go with a 235/40/17 or even a 235/35/17, if it's available. If you run a 235/40/17, you might have to put some 1/4" spacers on the front.

215 is just about perfectly square on a 7 inch wide wheel. the wider you go, the more sidewall flex you will get.

Damn for a moment there I thought this was a honda forum.
17x7 on a 240 is no good.
LOLz
I would suggest unless you really love those wheels then just sell them and get something staggered. Just my opinion.

Depends on the look and set-up you are after. If you want stretched go for 205, squared 215 or 225 or even bulged 235 to 245.
I wouldn't recommend anything more than 245. Me personally, I would go with 235. 245 is a bit much, but when you are in a bind and 245 ZR rated tires are available for $0, you go for it. Or if your mommy buys everything for you, go with the 5-lug swap with staggered wheels, stretched tires and drift that bitch. Don't forget your SR20 (only because it's the popular thing to do).

I really need new rims, I bought some 17x7's :loco: when i was in Highschool and they were aight' but yeah dude saving money is the way to go. My bro got a great deal on (2) 17x10's and (2) 17x9's doing a group buy or something.

I was given (for free) a set of 17x7's as my 1st set of after market wheels and I was running 225's in the rear and 215's in the front...looked like crap, then i purchased some 17x9's all around (group buy)...235-245's look much better in the fenders of my S14. My opinion is to save your money on tires, and buy something that can wrap something wider. :)

You have more patience than I :) I tried a set of 255's on my friend's 17x7's and finally gave up on it at the shop. He was running a really low aspect as well which made the task more like wrapping an old lubed condom around someones bald head :)

I have 17x7 for m 240sx and I have spacers in the front. If theres no spacer the tire will rub the suspension. The back has no spacer but its fine. I'm running 205/45/17 wish it was 215.

I'm looking to upgrade the wheels on my 240, and I haven't seen any specific fitments. I'm looking to run a staggered setup with 225/45-17's in the front and 255/40-17's in the rear. Can anyone suggest what offset, rim width and backspacing would allow this to fit? Or even something similar?

I had 235/40/17 on some 17x7 rims. they looked like crap, and i had to get some small spacers for the front to clear the struts. with a 1/4 spacer, i had about 3mm of space from the struts. get some new rims!
