Does anyone else think that its bullshit that the ball that Barry Bonds hit to break the home run record ( which had no value other than the cost of the ball before he smashed it for the homer) will be taxed?
If the 20 something year old kid that hit caught the ball wants to keep it for sentimental value or some other reason like wants it to be a family heirloom or somethign , he will have to pay a quarter mill to the irs.
Do you think that this tax is justified? i mean i know if he wanted to sell it it would go for more than 2 million, so he would be dumb not to sell it, but on the other hand, you know he cant afford to keep it, wtf can afford a quarter mill in taxes for a little ball? its liek the mlb and the irs, just want the rich fucks to have all the good things in life, i don't knwo what ever happened to freedom of choice? and also any other ball that someone catches isn't taxed, where the ones before the big one taxed? i just dont think it's right, but than again i dont think its right that they get payed millions to sit on the bench for half the game.
and sorry i know its kinda old news but i just found out about it a few days ago.

It's gone up to 2 million now?
Last I check I thought they said it was like half a million.
Well I think its fucked up they want to charge him property tax for the ball.
I heard that the IRS tried to pull this shit on another guy that was in a similar situation and the IRS failed in their attempt to do so.

from what i keep hearing on the radio its almost up to 2 mill, but knowing that it was half a mill is even more messed up, he would have to pay half of what it is worth to keep it, and if he sells it doesnt he have to pay taxes anyway?
i swear i hate the irs there so no needed, and are unconstitutional.
but yeah i feel bad for that kid cause i think he really wants to keep it, but atleast he will have a nice chunk of change.

I think the IRS shouldn't be able to put a value on it unless they purchase it.

it just like if you won something. people have to pay taxes on crap they win on the price is right, vegas winnings, and the lottery. does it suck? yes. is it anything new? no. he'll be ahead of the game in the end, don't worry.

id challenge that in court.....The IRS would have a hard time winning that case, because technically it really has no value at all.....if you think about it by barry bonds hitting it he technically did give him the ball, since the ball has no definite value and is not worth anything except to those who are collectors etc. he shouldnt be taxed anymore than sales tax on the cost of a regular baseball

he should just sell it, you could buy a lot more sentimental things than a baseball.

exactly. who's going to want to keep that ball? but even still, it shouldn't be taxed. it's worth like 2 bucks. you can't just start taxing intangible shit like that.

hahha thats why i titled the thread tax my balls,
ahhah, but like its been said you cant tax intangible shit, like if someone agreed to buy a loaf of bread for a million dollrs, you cant charge the owner tax for a million dollars on it. but yeah, i think the sport of baseball has lost all the heart, its no more than a hat to rep where your from , its not about the heart of american sports.
if anything i think the all american sport is hustling;dodge, shoot , running, jumpin, all that stuff. its all business, the only pure sport is little league stuff once money gets involved it just corrupts.

intangible? it's a baseball, a real baseball. it's production cost doesn't make any difference, just what people will pay for it (it is capitalism afterall). and in this case, it seems to be $2M.

if the dude sells it for 2 million, sure, tax it for the 2 million. but if he catches the ball and keeps it, you can't slam him with 2 million in taxes on a fucking baseball. that's completely insane.
Barry Bonds = STEROIDS
once you use them your a cheater forever
