Just remove that housing, take out old thermo, pop in new thermo, and put some liquid gasket around the housing and bolt it up.

Also cleanup the surfaces before you put on more gasket. Use a digrinder with a 3M abrasive pad or if you don't have that just some medium grit sandpaper.

for s13, there is enough room to change the tstat without taking other things out of the way. s14...should be about the same...i think...

Took me just over an hour.. I didnt remove anything but the intake and a few hoses. The bottom bolt on housing was a bitch. How long should I let the gasket dry for before filling up with fluids/driving.

Update, I drove to work today under mixed city/highway conditions which takes about 15 mins. Im running maybe 8 -10% cooler and also when I popped my hood I noticed my Rad or Fan(?) is making a fairly loud noise.. like a fridge cooling itself, which ive never heard before. hopefully that makes sense.
anything to be concerned about here?
