hey guys im doing a ka24e-t and i was just about to grind down my driver side motor mount to clear the turbo when i looked at the oil dipstick tube...

it would be so simple and easy to put the oil return line right to the oil dipstick tube.

regularly you would have to take off the oil pan, drill it out and weld on a return line bung and all that crap... but it would be so easy to just return it to the dipstick hole...

i would cut the dipstick tube pretty far down and then run a line right from the turbo to it.

theres 2 possible downfalls ive considered in the 5 minutes ive been thinking about this.

1) dipstick tube is a bit smaller in diameter than the oil return. could this be detrimental to oil flow from the turbo? i mean, the feed is much smaller than the return so maybe it would be fine.

2) what would u use for checking the oil  as long as your not leaking a lot and burning a lot, you should be fine after changing the oil... but u gotta have something to check the level with. so just thinking about that right now, im thinking maybe i could cut a hole on the bottom part of the dipstick tube and weld on another connector for the oil return. take the dipstick out and somehow thread the top of the tipstick tube for a removable bolt. have it bolted closed while driving incase the oil from the turbo return wants to try and make its way upward (dipstick would be mounted up on the inside of the hood, or in the hatch or something) and then when u want to check your oil, you just unbolt the dipstick tube and check away! you would probly have to wait a couple minutes because oil will be coming out of the turbo line for a little bit after shutdown and could mess up the reading...

let me know if this is viable. i already have the oil bung for the oil pan and all, i was just wondering if this would work or if anyones tried it

You wouldn't have sufficient oil flow. If you're willing to cut corners when building up a kat setup, your motor WILL blow. No question about it.

it would be just as easy to take the oil pan off and have a bung welded on.. safer too. think first....

well you could, but you would still need to weld. it would only cost you 10 bucks to have someone weld anything to your oil pan.

Maybe next time, you should keep your thinking inside your head.

I'm not trying to be mean, I'm just saying. Judging by the responses you received, it's probably better to keep this kind of thing to yourself.

KA-T is not a new thing. No need to attempt to reinvent the wheel.

welding isnt the problem... i just ran a new 50 amp 220 setup from my breaker box just for the welder :D

i dont think theres anything wrong with trying or atleast discussing new things... what good are the forums if we just do the same crap over and over and knock anything different... might as well just put up a huge FAQ and outlaw posting...

Then you are golden, weld the pan. that is how its done. Maybe if you want to over complicate the hell out of it you can bore the lip of the block, and stick a piece of tube stock in there for an oil return. But you are re-inventing the parts of the wheel that wont make it any faster.
