im planing on my new setup on my sr and i was thinking about a top mount setup with a gt30 turbo. this will be a weekend car with about 450hp, i would like to have feed back from poeple that are runing this setup, how is turbo lag, ect. i know i could have a gt2871r and make the same power put i know that in 2 years 450 wont be enought.

thx

dude i would search if i was you..everyone is gonna go crazy on you about it. not trying to be a dick but its gonna happen.

anyways thou to help you out a little bit, there is nothing wrong with the 2871r and you say in 2 years it wont be enough. if i were you i would build ur current setup to handle more power even if you werent gonna use it right way..or stick with a simple build for now..thats what I am doing..i already had both 2871Rs,. right now i have the .86..i havent yet to use the setup i am waiting on my bottom end to get back..but 450hp is nothing to laugh about..theses car are super light and super fun. i would consider building another motor if you can and in 2 years from now drop in ur new setup and have fun...jus my 2 cents. i am currently running the .86 greddy intake manifold c1 cams and a built bottom end and sorta built top end. there is notting wrong with a 450hp "weekend car"

450 would make me pee in my pants.

Maybe it's just me but seems pretty good to me already.

What do you want 1000?

I agree that what i did... I waited 6 months untill i had the money and then built my motor... i did everything CP pistons crower rods fully built head ect... and im running a bottom mount GT2871R. 64mm
not pushing more than 450whp max
so build up the motor escecially if you have 2 years to do it....
its been a year since i have dreven my car but when i get in it next week it will be well worth the wait...

450 won't be enough... lol.

i might have to aggre... lol
but i will let ya know whne i get my motor broken in. If you can hook up you should run high 10 second 1/4 mile with this setup(if you can hook up) lol

Always add up the size of the fight, before you choose your knife.

So.

WTF will you be doing with the car at the end of the day? Will you have a budget to accommodate this? How many other cars have you ridden in with similar setups?

Some people will tell you that waiting for a larger t3 to spool and tacking out a low compression motor is the way to go for drifting.

Some people will tell you the S15 turbo is you end all be all for drag.

The awesome thing about a community is meeting people and experiencing these things first hand. Allot of people get into bigger messes than they are ready for because there was Big List things (top mount) they wanted to do, but not work around everything else to support it.

"How" and "when" are figured once you know "where".

my turbo hardly has any lag and i love it... i found out when you do a top mount you get a considerble amount of lag... i went and checked out a few Sr's with top mounts before i had it done. I wanted to aim for 600whp which no problem for a Gt40 for my setup the only thing i need is a tranny to handle it. I already bot the Gt40 and some of the top mount parts but did some research and decided to stick with the bottom mount Gt28. You can always change later, and you do have to upgrade everything... fuel managment sytem(tunning) ect... have some one who knows what there doing help or do it

sometimes i contemplate the 2871R - for the response

spooling up at 4000 has its disadvantages...

.

who are they so i can stab them to death

all these numbers are for idiots.

Numbers are for magazine.

Usable power and track times is for winning.

Glancing over a peak power number even if its 100 hp more than a nother car will get its ass handed to it in almost any kind of racing
if the power band is un-usable or mis-geared to use it.

you probably only need 350whp.

If you have driven I mean really driven a 350 whp, more importantly 320-350 ft lb of torque sr car you would know.

Thats enough for high 11s and extremely fast lap times if you Peak torque starts before 4k.

Ive gone gt30r with .63 and I get full boost by 4k and pulls all the way to 8k.

I havent had a time when Ive been in any kind of slalom or turn where I didnt have immediate power, of course I need some hoosiers now because Im sliding all over the place on exit accel.

But dawg. I'm tryin to make super street. My grocery list HAS to sound sick.

My car can't be seen with some weak ass power like 450.

Aight. Time to head out to Safeway... Oh yeah. I'm using all 450hp to get there baby. That's how us G's ride.

I have personally ran both setups..not at 450whp of course but anyways. First setup i had was just stock fuel system/maf and a gt28 with fmic 3" exhaust and megan manifold..setup held up great for about a year till i blew the motor but was very very responsive and had little to no lag at all. Now im running a 60 trim t3/t4 with sti 550's and a z32 maf with ROM tune..its ALLOT different because i dont even start to spool till about 2k rpm and hit full boost at about 3,500-4k rpm..but once that boost comes on holy is it ever a big difference..the t3/t4 gives allot of power and can make an sr very fast but allot of people recommend running a little 50shot of nitrous to help the turbo spool up quicker..all in all both setups are great. I do myself prefer the top mount setup becuase im making more power with it and it looks 100x better! haha

lol Zar said it.

To paraphrase what John said, go figure out what you're trying to do with the car, then go check out the guys that are currently doing it the best. That'll give you a good idea of where you need to be, hardware wise.

Your emotional response to this flaming will determine where you need to be, forum wise =P
