View Full Version : fucked sohc timing

My car's timing is messed up. Awhile back, i set the timing to 15* and it ran fine. Now after i put my efans on and took off all the emissions, the timing changed to 10*. I think it has to do with vacuum leaks because the last time i adjusted it there were probably a couple leaks but now there arent any. But yea, after my car warms up, i shut it off and pull both plugs off the tps. After i turn my car on, the idle goes up to 900 so i adjust the idle back to 750 with the idle screw. I check my timing and its around 15* but the timing moves around really fast. So i turn off the engine and plug the plugs back onto the tps. Turn engine on and check timing. It goes back to 10*. If i adjust the 10* to 15* without unplugging the tps, the car seems to knock a little bit.

My second question is, my firing order seems to be 180* off. I thought that the 1st cylinder was suppose to be at 11 oclock and the 4th cylinder was suppose to be at 4 o clock. But on my car, the 1st is at 4 oclock and the 4th is at 11 oclock. WOuld i have to take the oil pump out in order to fix it?? And would that be what is messing up my timing??

if you want to go 180 degrees, pull the distributor out and turn the shaft 180 degrees and put it back in.

i cant do that, its different from dohcs. On a sohc, the distributor has this gay half moon thing. Its not a gear like dohcs. So my oil pump shaft, which is what drives the distributor, is 180 degrees off and i tried to switch it back but the stupid owner before me tightened the shit out of the fucking bolts and now one of the bolts are stripped...so i gave up.
