Just wanted to ask for some advice about water spots, and how to get it damn clean.
I wash the car, but it dries with water spots. I wipe those off with a shammy but I get smears. Is that from a previous wax?

Chances are that you live in an area where you have hard water. You should never wash/dry your car in the sunlight or while the car is hot. Also, use a VERY mild detergent or soap made exclusively for car finishes. It is best to wash/rinse/dry a section at a time instead of trying to do the whole car at once.
Here are some excellent detailing tips by a master detailer:

well, I did it during 80 degrees, and in direct sunlight! I think that explains some problems. <img src="http://www.zilvia.net/f/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=':D'>
Thanks for the link too. Much appreciated.

Easiest way to cheat your way to a nice finish is to rinse the car and then use some flitered/distilled water as a final rinse. It won't leave spots as it dries and you can be a lot less careful about how well you dry the car (sometimes I don't bother except on windows). This is called a spot dree rinse at any car wash station and seems to work pretty well. It's about as good as I ever worry about when I'm washing my car every week or two. If I wanted a show finish I might be more careful, but usually it's too dirty to noyice within two days and looks perfect from 10+ft.
