View Full Version : Need help w/ NISM0 short shifter

Can anyone give me any advice on how to install my nismo short shifter kit. The person who sold it to me didn't send any installation directions.

correct me if im wrong guys (i know you'll jump on the chance to, lol)

but i was under the impression that the nismo shifter wasnt really a short shifter, but in fact only firmed up the shifts, but didnt shorten them enough for you to notice...

it's only shorter by about an 1.5'' maybe 2 in. but the person i bought this 90' coupe from fuckin hammared a bullet shift knob all sketchy over the threads so i can't change out the knob. the price of the S shift kit was cheap anyway.:blah: :wackit:

Only thing is you dont have to change the plate. Once you get all the trim out of the way, if you look down the shaft, there will be 2 retaining c-clips. Get a nose pliers and pry them out. Once you get them out, the whole shifter will just pull out of the socket. Swap them and put back the c-clips in the same order you took it out.

oh yeah, damn i forgot about that. And thanks for the "c-clips and nose pliers" i've been referring to them as circle clip thingys and the wierd looking needle nose pliers with the prongs at the end for a week because i couldnt remember wat they were called.

But yeah our right, you dont have to replace the plate. Good move!

Lastly, dont drop the plastic piece on the end of the shifter, ive seen people drop those into the tranny while they are attempting to take it out.

The Nismo shifter is NOT a short throw or short unit at all, period. The Ebay shifter with Nismo written on the box is just a rebadged OBX/Pilot piece. And install instructions can be found anywhere online. You just have to actually look for it.
