i have the same problem as the rest of the guys with the se hatch spoiler... RUST. when i removed the stock spoiler to try and fix the rust, i noticed that the underside of the spoiler has gone all to crap. so i've decided to get a 180sx spoiler (still trying to find 1 thats OEM). my question is, what holes are used so i don't bondo and paint over the holes that i will need for this spoiler. pdmracing (although replica) shows that it may bolt up on the outer most holes. i just need verification of this.

*updated* answer to my question is.... no the kouki (180sx/type x) wing will not fit stock mounts on an SE s13 hatch. write up for fixing rust coming soon...

i think it would be a better idea to find a spoilerless hatch, or at least weld in metal pieces to cover up the circle and then use body filler to finish it off.

second that, go spoilerless. and from what i understand, none of the holes line up.

just got done. grinded to bare metal until all rust was gone. was thinking about bondo'ing the holes, but instead used fiberglass...just have to wait for it to dry to sand down. thanks for the advice cdlong and frpilot.

For mine yesterday we just filled in the holes with metal, il post some pics up tomorrow, i had a rust spot just like that. Just cut out the rust and make a piece of metal to replace. The small holes can be filled just by welding them shut. Then cut metal for the large holes and weld that in, then skim coat with filler.

People, the hatch is not a structural piece, which means filling in even baseball-sized rust spots (after you've cut the rust out) with fiberglass is MUCH easier than taking your hatch to a welder just so he can weld in some 14ga steel.

Fiberglass is your friend. Sicarius, tell em - and go ahead and post some pics with a write-up :)

I just welded some metal on the underside and bondo'd the holes.

As far as fitment goes on the oem kouki wing, its not going to line up at all. I drilled new holes for the new wing.

YOU CALL THOSE LITTLE THINGS RUST HOLES?!

lol seriously though, you should have seen mine. softball size holes. I literally had 2 thin pieces of metal holding my spoiler on. I just ripped it off.

The best way to go is to take out everything behind the hatch, like the wiper motor and all that good shit, then fiberglass it from behind, then use bondo to fill the gaps from the top. Its a little harder, but it works out so much better than anything else. You dont want to lay fiberglass on top, because when you get it repainted, it will stick out like a sore thumb.

Anyhow, good luck on the Type X spoiler. I was planning on getting one too, but ive decided to go with the wangan style... because i layed the fiberglass over the holes, and now it sticks out like a sore thumb.

Learn from my mistake. I was only 16 i didnt know any better!

I really didn't expect his on here, why wouldn't you want to fill the holes with metal, shit man ive done fiberglass on body parts and just cutting up some metal and welding it is faster.

Yeah trust me. Ill try to get pictures up tomorrow. I'll show you then. I thought i had sanded it down all real nice, it looked nice and when i primed it it still looked nice, but the shiney black paint made everything stick out.
