View Full Version : Having my KA24DE Rebuilt....

I'm probably going to have my engine rebuilt with the better rods and pistons pretty soon. Will I get any horsepower gains from them?

And is there anything else I should buy right now since I'm doing the rebuild?  I'm looking to turbocharge this engine and possible Nitrous.

You might see some small increases if you go with lighter internals or higher compression pistons.

if you're going to turbo it, then you should put in low compression forged pistons.  you'll lose power while its n/a, but it'll be worth it when its turbo.  other than that, get forged rods, maybe lighten the pistons and rods, and maybe even beef up the valvetrain - stiffer valve springs, bigger valves, head port, valve guide, valve retainer, etc..

is there something like a "Perfomance KA24DE Rebuild Kit"? if not.. anybody knows any website i can look at some info about rebuilding? I'm not going to turbo my engine, i just want NA power to the fullest! so what internals should i make sure are replaced with what? that's why i was looking for a Rebuild Kit? Again.. i want the best for NA perfomance! Im also going to get hot shot headers whenever i do that as well! Both at the same time...

You can ask for custom Pistons for an extra..

Those prices are actually prety good. Throw in some extra cash for new hi-po cams and a header and you've got a decent set up.

To the original poster- just replacing stock internals with better (stonger) parts won't yeild any additional power but will increase the threshold of power they can tolerate with other mods.  Now if you said you were going high compression with you pistons you would see a few percent (4-6) in gains across the powerband per full point of compression increase.  Another thing you could do is balance the parts you are putting in as well as the crank and you'd probably be good for a slightly higher redline (which could be beneficial with new cams or a turbo).

If you are planning on a turbo, go a bit lower in compression.  I'd also wait on the NOS till you have your turbo setup working properly.

BRSTYLE240SX- You'd probably see more gains a lot cheaper and easier with cams and a header, rather than digging into your internals.  That's a lot of work, compared to just pulling the head.  I had plans for higher compression like you, but for now I think that can wait till I have a lot more tools and the time to pull the motor out of my car and do it all right.
