Replacing my dashboard on my1990 240 sx coupe. I was curious to know if I have to dismantle and remove my tachometers, steering wheel, and other parts that are attatched to the steering wheel. any advice would be appreciated:confused:

you;ll have to take the gauge cluster out,
but afaik, you dont need to remove the steering wheel.
you'll have to take the gauge cluster and the trim around it out.
same deal with radio and ac stuff.

Remove "knee bar" panels under driver's side.
Remove glovebox on passenger side.
Remove radio surround.
Drop steering column.
Remove Gauge Cluster.
Remove defroster vents. Carefully. They tend to crack and break easily.
Remove all bolts holding dash to the car.
Remove dash board. Don't forget to un-hook hoses from the A/C vents.
Reverse for install.
I may have missed some little stuff. But that's the basics.
You might not NEED to do all of the above to remove your dashboard either. It's just been the easiest method I've found.

i'm guessing you drill out the vin plate and then re-rivet the said plate on replacement dash?

Yes, pop-rivet the original VIN Plate onto the new dash.
See, I knew I missed something. Thanks los_inc.

If you drop the front steering it's a little easier only 2 12mm bolts cluster trim comes out a lot easier.

It doesn't take long at all. The first time I did it in less then 45mins. I could probably do it in 20mins now.

Heh yeah I can get mine out in about 30 mins. impressed the hell out of my neighbor one day when I gutted the whole car, down to the heater vent tubing in about an hour.

I'll be doing this at the end of the month. It'll be nice to get my minty dash in my coupe.
