Hi I just repaired my car its a 95 240sx I changed the water pump, clutch fan, and thermostat about a week ago I used my air con. when it was like 90 outside. When i can home there was no more antifreeze. After i filled her up I drove it for about 10 mins. it started to overheat again... i touch the top Rad. hose and of course it was hot. Then when i checked that bottem hose it was ice cold. So i relized that the thermostat that i just changed went bad. I figured that i didnt need it.

Now This is that problem... I filled up my car about $32 of gas and now im only getting like 150 miles!? Do u think i should buy another thermostat? I don't know what too do. Thanks for your time and help.

Well first of all you could have searched a little better using something simple like "overheating" but either way, if you replaced the water pump, then you need to get all of the air out of the cooling system (search it). If you don't then you will likely overheat, and depending on the situation, may look like if you don't have any more coolant. If your lower radiator hose is cold, you're water pump may not be working correctly and not circulating the water as it should. The thermostat's job is to activate the radiator fan at a certain temperature. If it is bad then you're fan won't turn on which would cause overheating but is a doubtful culprit of your problem. As for your mileage, your getting shitty mileage because your engine isn't operating correctly. Aside from that, your driving style has a lot to do with mpg.

Get the air out of the cooling system, verify that the water pump is in fact working, and if that checks out, look for any cracked hoses that may be causing a leak.

Don't forget to open the the vent hole on the upper water neck, with the engine off, open the vent and top off the radiator. When coolant comes out, put the vent bolt back in, while being careful not to crossthread.

KA= next to throttle body, closest to the head.
SR= behind the CAS (cam angle sensor)

Steve I think he was talking about the thermostat in the coolant system, opening at 190* to let the water flow. I agree with you that it seems like a air-in-the-system or water pump problem, because even if the thermo was not operating (staying shut), you'd have hot water in the lower coolant hose trying to get in there.

Search on bleeding the coolant system, then as the last step do what Slamdbusa said. You should be set to go then.

are you saying you're running without a thermostat

get an oem thermostat
bleed it properly

that should cure your overheating problem and your bad mileage problem
