I have got a strange starting problem. My redtop doesn't start when the fuel pump is connected but if I disconnect it starts then dies. I have to disconnect it and then start it, then run to my trunk and connect it for it to stay on. I've searched but haven't found any similar situations, it's getting really annoying and ghetto have to run back and forth to start my car. Thanks in advance.

Haha I had the same problem. But instead of running I just took down the back seats and leaned back to connect it. My brother said that there was too much fuel in the lines but I don't now. But It'll stop doing that after like a day or two, so I'm not to worried about it.

Ok, let me ask you this first, was your original stock fuel pump working correctly? are you sure you connected the wires within the tanks correctly?

My oem fuel pump got taken out after my swap cuz the engine would start to bog when the turbo was suppose to start spooling. It has always been working fine, until recently. But the starting problem happened once before but it went away and wasn't this bad. My car starts when the motor is cold but if it's already warm it won't.

Is yours cool now? If so just just let the fuel run.

Yea. What I used to do was start it with the fuel pump off and let it die. Then plug it back in and it would turn on fine.

Thanks. After this tank of gas will the lines be cool after?

sounds like you have some other problems besides the shotty fuel pump install. Possibly timing combined with wiring.

might clogged fuel lines? try some fuel cleaner.

Yea I was thinking fuel injection cleaner might help.
Sometimes when I come to a stop my idle revs up to around 1100 and stays then at other times it will idle fine. I checked for any possible vac leaks and there aren't any. I was wondering if this fuel problem is causing that.

well the walboro fuel pump fixed my problem with the bogging. I'm just hoping it isn't anything super serious.

ok, do you disconnect the fuel line or the wiring? If its the wiring it could be that the pump is faulty. or maybe it is a fuel pump relay. Unless of course you have a leaky injector and everytime the pump turns on when you are getting the key ready it is dumping fuel into your cylinders. :)

I'd just try replacing the fuel pump relay and see what that does.
Your goofy idle could be a lot of different things.

I disconnect the wiring. The fuel reads empty when it doesn't start. Then I have to do the disconnecting trick again.

Okay so I got the fuel cleaner and hopefully the problem will go away in a couple days. My idle has improved a lot actually. I still have to unplug the fuel pump to start my car though.

have you considered changing your fuel filter, making sure one of your injectors is not stuck open, also make sure your FPR is not broken or damaged to the point its raising fuel pressure too high.

vapor lock maybe? :fart:

Yea I'll probably change the fuel filter. My injectors are secure. I doubt my FPR has something wrong. I don't have any performance issue, none what so ever, so I don't think its vapor lock. I just have to let the fuel run out and then start it.
Thanks for all the tips. I really appreciate it. I hope the cleaner kicks in and maybe a new fuel filter would help me get rid of this problem. If anyone else has any thoughts on this please don't hesitate to post.

Okay, I've changed my fuel filter, new spark plugs (ngk pre-gapped), it's already been over 3/4 a tank since I used the fuel cleaner, I check my fuel pressure, fuel injectors aren't leaking, no vac/boost leaks and it still won't start unless I let the fuel drain out first or my engine is cold. Need to remind you I am not suffering any performance loses. I'm starting to think it's my fuel pump. But its barely 4 months old. Or I just need new lines. If anyone has had a similar issue please help me out. Fuck if you're in socal and can fix my problem I'll give you $20 (I'll pay for the parts if any of course) and I'll take you out drinking one night.
