The sun was hot, and the action hotter as die-hard drifters went to war on the banks of the Orange Show Speedway in San Bernardino last Sunday.

D1-licensed driver Forrest Wang came to compete, and joined Drift Buffet regulars Mark Sanchez and Matt Powers in a charity ride-along raffle. More than 100 spectators bought raffle tickets, and 4 lucky winners got to strap-in and experience tandem drifting first hand with some of America's best young drivers. All raffle proceeds went to benefit 9 year old Leukemia patient Joseph Alvarado, of Bloomington, CA. For more information on how you can help Joseph, please contact Lupe Huereca at (909)471-3131.

The Street Class win went to Jeff Jones in his street RX-7, followed by Sam Greenwood's skyline-powered S13, and Joe Dycus's BRE-styled 350Z. Season standings for Street Class show Enrique Mendoza still in the lead with 28, but Joe Dycus' consistent finishes put him only 2 points behind with 26, and 3rd place is a tie between Michael Duque and Ryan Litteral.

Matt Powers drifted his bright green s14 240sx to his third Tandem Class win of the season, followed by Mark Sanchez in the blue turbo 86 Corolla. Riley Cahill in his dark blue 180SX beat Pat Mordaunt to take the last step on the podium.

The Tandem Class season points reveal Matt Powers in the lead with 40, followed by Pat Mordaunt with 35, and Colin Frost with 26.

The Drift Buffet Rd 5 Herculean Effort of the Day came from Mark Sanchez, whose water pump shattered and his fan buried itself in his radiator before practice even started. He made a run to a local junkyard and the auto parts store, and with some help from his dad, he got the turbo 86 Corolla running in time to get just one practice lap before qualifying. He qualified second, and took his little blue Corolla all the way to the finals, where he finally met his match in Matt Powers.

Best crash of the day went to Bob McCoy, whose purple Camaro traded blows in both the front and rear with the Orange Monster. As always, the Orange Monster won, but if we know Bob, he'll be back again and ready to compete at the next round. Nothing stops Bob!

In other Drift Buffet news, the August 18th parking lot practice is almost full, so sign up and pay today to guarantee your spot! Tech opens at 7am, practice from 8am-4pm.
