I just recently acquired some Takata Harnesses and not exactly sure what would be the correct and safest way to mount the harness in my s14. A friend had his bolted down using a point in his backseats..he has a wrx by the way. And i dont want to just bolt them down anywhere because I know that if they arent bolted securely and safely they can actually harm the user if i was to get in a wreck or something of that sort.

Friends have told me to get a B-Pillar bar and attach them to that then bolt down using custom holes in the floor board but i just think thats a bunch of BS. I dont even know where to buy just a B-pillar bar.

So my question is pretty obvious. What would be the safest and the proper way to install a takata harness into an s14? The car is daily driven for now and will be for about the next 6 months while i wait to peice together my rb swap. So im looking for comfort and functionality..trying to have the best of both worlds i guess you can say.

I have stock s14 seats btw if that even matters.

Thanks,
Blake

Your rear selt belt holes would be safe. B-pillar bars are also pretty safe. Main idea is that you want the belts mounted to the body of the car. If you were really feeling brave, you could drill holes into the body of the car and tap them to the bolt sizes, but that's a little more dangerous, because its sometimes hard to see what you're actually drilling.

Another thing is that in your takata harness there should have been directions, and there was a picture there that shows the optimal mounting angle for the seat belts, best bet would be to follow that design as closely as possible.

Harnesses are more dangerous for regular driving, because they can sometimes prevent you from being able to get out of the car in a regular accident where emergency crews are more than 30 seconds away from you. Remember in fast and the furious where Han couldn't get out of his car while it was on fire? Imagine yourself in that situation and you can't move your hands to release the harnesses, or get your arms out of the belts after you release the harness. Alot of people use factory seat belts for daily driving, and harnesses on the tracks. Also consider that your harnesses when installed properly basically glue you to your seat. Can you reach your radio / a/c, etc without moving from the back of your seat? Little things like that you should consider.

I've never thought that B pillar bars were very safe

I never thought that mounting it to seat belt points in the rear were safe either (angle improper)

I think harness bar on a 4 point cage is safety bet

well i got them from a friend who wrecked his car and just started parting stuff out. I got the harnesses for free because he owed me anyhow so no directions or nothing.

So the rear seat belt mounts would be best? Should i even consider buying a b-pillar bar?

the ONLY safe way to mount them is using a harness bar that goes from a structural point in the cage to another structural point in the cage. Some say if you get the long it's ok to mount them towards the back seat area, but I guess it's your safety, it's up to you. Wouldn't pack your chute wrong if you were about to skydive though would you?

i used the short versions and i bolted them through the harness bar on my roll bar. i used extended eyebolts and put a nut at the other end.

If the harnesses were in a wreck, you'll need to send them to get inspected and possibly re-webbed

Nah, keep scrolling down. It has instructions for both.
