recently i went on a trip to michigan to visit my mother and i returned to my car with a dead battery, so i jumped it off started it up WHOA....extremely rough idle gas pouring out of my exhaust and no. 4 injector screaming like a banshee ive hooked all injectors to an ohm meter all read 11.6 or .7 and changed the O rings on them even though they looked fine...Nebody have a clue on what i need to do...i know this problem has probably already been discussed but i cant find these exact symptoms on the forums...thanx oh by the way the car was only sitting for three days and ran perfect when i left...redtop s13

Will your car stay running or does it die after a bit? Do you have to charge the battery each time to start it?

exactly battery stays dead have to jump it everytime i try to fire it. Car usually dies after a few moments but every so often it will sit and try to idle then die just after if u know nething please lemme know im lost. oh yes and it spits gas everywhere like i said

Hook up what's called a noid light, it's just a little light that plugs into the injector connectors. The light should flash, if it just stays on then you have either a short in the wiring for that injector, which would explain the dead battery or a bad computer. You can also use a voltmeter to see if one injector is always on.

friend had the same problem, - the batt. ended up being the whiring harness.

try switching ECU's to see if it might be faulty. I had a similar problem, and after switching injectors, harnesses, CTS, and MAF, it turned out to be a faulty ECU.

I would pull the batt and take it to be charge/tested at the parts store. ECU can be real cranky with low voltage.

if it stays that way then one of your injectors may be stuck.

thanx guys ill let u know what happens ive got a friend with an sr he may let me try his ecu

also make sure the injector isnt stuck open. you should be able to hear it click when it opens and closes.

+1 on the noid light. the bosch one should fit right into the plug. just do a few simple tests before you run out and start buying parts.

Injector O-Ring? Check your fuel rail pressure at idle... Should be 35-40psi with the vac line hooked up to the FPR. I had this problem and the motor wouldn't start, heavy fuel smell, etc... Unplug the #4 injector and fire it up. It should idle rough but the gas smell should be gone. That tells you it's something with the injector or the wiring. If the gas smell remains and/or you have low fuel pressure at idle, could be a bad o-ring.

all o rings have already been changed sry was signed on my friends name

Charge your battery fully at your local parts store and while its charging, sift through your wiring harness and check for any breakage or fraying in the harness. Also pull your injector and re-check your O-rings. As well as checking your O2 sensor.

ok...have a brand new battery on the car now...its crankin its lil heart out and not firing...checked for spark all plugs sparking fine...re checked o rings they're brand new and looked fine still so...all injectors read 11.6-11.7 on all four all i can think is that the plugs are getting drowned in fuel...runnin v-power fuel (93oc)

I had a dead injector, found it and replaced it but the lower ring got damaged on the reinstall... Had to pull the rail again to find it =/. Unplug the injectors one at a time while it's idling to see if the idle improves or degrades. Also try unplugging the spark plug during each injector test to see if it improves or degrades. Pull your codes too, but this sounds like a mechanical problem with the fuel system.. GL

replaced no. 4 injector with known good injectors car ran same when i unplugged the injector it idled back down and ran a lil smoother on three cylinders but still smoked like crazy...but neways so i guess its down to wiring and ecu problems ne body know where i should start checking my wiring from

car is finally starting...got the big listenin stick lol...#1 and #2 injectors are opening and closing fine...#3 and #4 both are opening and closing very much slower than the others is this wiring or bad injectors?

ok so i was checkin around on the wiring from my ecu and i found the #2 injector drive output wire had a lil bare wiring showing that could have been grounding out on the car but i dunno the number two injectors was working fine

ecu puts out code 55 is there another way to tell if sumthing is wrong with the ecu itsself

Hows the fuel pump, do you have a way to measure fuel pressure?

rob3725
08-09-2007, 07:14 PM
fuel pressure is good to my knowledge i heard sum things about the ecu casing possibly touching the board inside checked that out and then i noticed some corosion and or charring on my ecu plugs and on some of the pins...checked it out to see what was what and turns out to be the eccs power, eccs backup power and a few others that show corrosion or charring...hoping i dont need a new ecu and harness neone know a way to figure it out

How is your timing? Did you remove the distributor/CAS for some reason?
Is your FPR vac hose hooked up?
Did you put a friends ECU in yet?

rob3725
08-10-2007, 08:07 PM
timing is dead on all vacs good...pulled the ecu and found all sorts of corrosion on some of the pins and the plug itself seemed to be charred or sumthin...mostly around pins 39 and up pulling the harness and checkin for shorts probably need a new ecu now...after that i didnt want to swap his ecu in afraid of damaging it too

oil is gone...pretty much black gas in my engine drained threw some 20-50 in it to get it lubed up

ok stripped intire harness on parts of some wires there were signs of being burnt up but i couldnt find a short or bare wire newhere thinking of buying brand new harness but i really dont have the money to just throw around on things that MIGHT fix the car somebody anybody...share the knowledge lol

rob3725

put harness back in yesterday tried to start it but sumthing wasnt right...got if firing and it would run extremely rough for barely a moment then die...thought it may be flooding out really bad due to the excess fuel being dumped like before...finally swapped my friends computer in to see if it helped....nothing...so switched back to my ecu and now my fuel pump isnt coming on...

check into grounds, once again your injectors seem to be opening and closing at improper times. It is either the injectors themselves, the grounds to the injectors, or your ecu. check and advise. :D

alright guys finally...KICK MYSELF IN THE HEAD...missed the plug for the fuel pump when i put the harness back in...plugged it up started it with my ecu all the same gas smell smoke all that...switched computer again...fixed...ordered brand new harness and am bout to get a mines ecu will let everyone know what happens...thanx for all the help guys
