The throwout bearing on the end of the clutch fork mates with the pressure plate, holding the clutch fork in its forward position. When you press the clutch the fork is moved by the slave cylinder and your thowout bearing presses on the pressure plate, disengaging the clutch. When the clutch pedal is then depressed the pressure plate pushes the fork back to the forward position. From what you previously wrote it seems that you have never driven this car so it is very possible that there isn't a clutch on the motor, thus no pressure plate.

Is it an SR?

When I installed my SR the same thing was happening to me. I was given the wrong clutch fork, or at least the fork given was too long for my slave cylinder to mate with. I took the tranny out and put my KA fork in and problem solved. Haven't had a problem since.
