View Full Version : fuel pump relay clicking. car not starting.

so i was driving the car today, and it suddenly died. so i tried to turn it over and it wouldnt turn over. all the while the fuel pump relay was clicking like crazy. so i got a friend of mine to take me to vatozone and got a new one. same thing, even the new one was just clicking like crazy. the car starts every once in a while but dies soon afterwards..... please help idk what to do

check your 75a alt fuse

Are you sure it is the fuel relay and not your starter making the clicking noise?

...and if you've replaced the relay with a new one, and it's doing the same...

Then look at the fuel pump.

How many miles on the car?

Is it an OEM pump?

Unplug the harness in the rear, and turn the key on...does the relay still do the same? If not, that makes me think the pump is shot and/or shorting out.

alrite check your grounding to the starter to see if its loose. its one of your groundings that are loose.

check fuel pressure before you just start fuckin with the pump

ok so i pulled the fuel pump today and turned the car on to see if the fuel pump was even turning on at all. sure enough it wasnt. so i hardwired the fuel pump to the battery just to see if it would work. and sure enough the fuel pump worked fine. i looked to see if i could find the fuel pump fuse but i couldnt find it at all. a friend of mine said it was under the dash but i couldnt find it there. idk what to try next. where exactly is the fuse? or could there be a different solution? any ideas?

do you ahve a FSM?

If not send me your email and I will send you the s14 sr FSM, sorry I dont have a s13 FSM for the chassis.

trace the fuel pump wiring using the FSM wiring diagrams

When you say the relay just keeps on clicking do you mean that you turn the key ONE time and the relay clicks multiple times or do you mean that when you turn it ONE time it only clicks once. Please specify.

Hey I'm having similar issues

Turn key once multiple clicking noise

Hit it hammer

Turn key once one click then a humming noise

might start with the obvious by make sure your battery is securely on and charged. my car did the same thing so make sure like someone else stated to check your grounds and the positive cable from your battery. a little corrosion can do alot to stop your car from starting
