View Full Version : Rattling at Exactly 2500 rpm
Hi.. i don't know if this is related to any other problems anyone else has been having with heatshields, but this is my problem. When I rev to 2500rpm, i hear some sort of rattling sound. I can't tell where it is coming from. It goes away at 2600rpm.. and I will not hear it again until i decelerate past 2500rpm again.
I had my exhaust manifold shield and timing replaced about 1 month ago and I have been hearing this rattle ever since. I wasn't sure if it was rattling before these repairs since I had tons of other stuff rattling at the same time (timing and manifold shield)
Any ideas?
Thanks

all i can think of is a shot exhaust manifold gasket.

Same here. I think its the cat heat shield.

Open up the hood and have someone rev it for you. Try to locate the problem that way, then come back and ask again. <img src="http://www.zilvia.net/f/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/wink.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=';)'>

my brother has a problem similar to this, he has a 99 civic si, and his thermal R&D exhaust is broken inside, and it rattles at low RPMs.

If you do what DrBubbleB told you (great advice), and you don't hear the rattle under the hood or see it present on the exh. manifold shield, then it's your piping/cat shields.

I have the EXACT same problem..except mine rattles EXACTLY at 2,000 Rpm. I for the longest time thought It was the timing chain, because it sounds like a chain rattle for sure... maybe its not so bad after all.. I just don't want to take it to a garage, and get ripped off, end up having to pay them out my ass. If you figure this out, PLEASE let me know..I'm taking mine in next weekend to replace some belts so, i'll have this checked too!
