OKay I recently bought a deck and some speakers for my S14. I hate my stock thing... I can't play burn-cd.. and radio is driving me mad...
Anyways! Well I thought I could do it myself... So wrong... why is a S14 soo weird? Had to pull this out and that. Mount didn't look like it would be easy.
So I just gave in and said I'm going to paid for it to get installed. First place and closed till I have to drive like 30 mins to get anyways that will install it Circuit City. I got there last night when the Road shop was closing I got a quote for about $150. 90 was the labor which i think is a lil high and 60 was the wiring and deck thing kit. I dunno.
What do you guys think? Is it worth it?

No way

Stereo stuff is pretty simple

Even if you dont have the radio harness, if you have to cut and splice and solder your own wiring its pretty easy

And for speakers, its just two wires

Easy as pie

There is no mounting hardware required anywhere, any DIN size radio sits right where the OE came out. The harness is like $10, labor shouldn't be more than $50.

150 if you had me do it.

If you decide to do it yourself, spend the $10 and get the harness. Its pretty mutch a matter of matching colors and soldering/crimping them. Even having never done it before, it shouldnt take more than an hour to do the whole thing. save the other $140 for cd-r's for your new deck

Edit: Im going to be putting a deck into my s14 this weekend, i can take detailed pics and do up a tutorial if it would help

Me and my friend tried for an hour... We got to the deck and kinda of out..
Well I know what to do but the thing that holds up the deck is all f---'d up. 2 of screws are already strip up. My panels to my door don't wanna come off. I got all of the screws off and the thing just didn't want to move. It was dumb...
And I thought you need a dash kit for a S14 because the deck doesn't sit right in the dash.

keep messing with the door panel they are alittle tough but then you just connect the 2 wires and speakers are set. dont rip the hell out of it but give it some force

You DO NOT need a kit, period. The OE radio is a DIN unit, anything else you'll buy on the aftermarket is a DIN unit. Remove one, put the new one in. Done. If you're having this many problems with this you may want to look into another hobby.

Pay for the adapter from Best Buy/ Circuit city though, don't cut the fucking chassis plugs out of the car like 99% of people do, that annoys the shit out of me.

But yea

240 stereo install is Cake

but Labor rates at circuit city/ best buy are pretty high if you bring in your own shit/ they don't like you, lol.

I'll give it another try since I know a bit more.
If not I'll just go to cheaper place.

A bit mean there with last words eh? I understand what I need to do but doing it isn't as easy. I use to work on computer and do computer repair as a job and what not. So thing isn't much different.

The thing is these 2 screw that are tight down soo much I couldn't get it out without striping it. Which one of them are now... So I'm a lil at a lot with it.
