Mark- You're on the east coast aren't you? &nbsp;That's your problem. &nbsp;Having moved from White Plains NY to the midwest, it's like all real estate went on a half price sale. &nbsp;

There's a farm house with barn, that both admittedly need work, 3 miles down the road from me in Madison and it's going for $279,000. &nbsp;The barn is easily made into a 6+ car garage, plus shop above, the house is a small three bedroom and the property is 3.75 acres, subdividable once (which should get you about $75-100k for the acre that's most easily separable). &nbsp;Trust me I'm soooo tempted to buy the place, but I can afford taxes or renovation (provided my gf buys it with me), but not both. &nbsp;Plus I have no idea where I'll be in a few years so a house isn't right for now.

Yeah, but if I moved out there, I'd make about 80% of what I make now and still have a giant student loan payment... oh yeah... and I'd probably go absolutely friggin' nuts! &nbsp;I'm a city snob. &nbsp;I don't know what to do with open spaces and friendly people. &nbsp;I mean, if I get out to the outer DC suburbs, I wonder how those rednecks manage? &nbsp;Geeziz - it's like 3 miles to a grocery store!
