I just replaced my 6.5" MB Quartz components with some Rockford 6.5" components. I thought they would sound better, since they were a little higher end, but there was hardly any difference. Im running them strait off the headunit, Alpine CDA-9815.

The hi's sound great and clear, but the mids are hardly noticeable. I was thinking it might help if I made a sealed enclosure for the 6.5" mid, to get more response out of it. Has anyone built one specifically on the S14 that still fits under the door panel. Id hate to cut it up and whatnot.

Any suggestions? I had a sub in my car before, but Im not a big fan of it. Id rather have just the components. FYI Im not running any rear speakers.

I've modified the OE brackets and fitted 8s in the doors pretty easily, MBQuart used to make a nice 2-way 8inch that sounded amazing. Problem is the size of a speaker creates a shit ton of resonance in the door. Start out by damping the door heavily with undercoating inside, sealing all the screws/bolts to keep them from vibrating loose, and maybe throw some roofing tar (Dynamat) on the shell.

I thought about it, but it wasnt something I wanted to do. That dynamat/tar stuff is something Id rather avoid.

I replaced the stock 6" with 2ways in the back and 3ways in the front and I got a base tube for lows.

Rear speakers usually degrade the sound you get from the fronts. They are mainly used for the passengers that sit back there. I might try and fit some 6x9s back there to get some low-end, but we'll see how that goes.

In my car I deleted the rears from the deck and moved them to the rear quarters. There's plenty of room to build a small enclosure down low by the seat, I used OE front grilles and molded them to the panel's contour, looks like it came OE that way and sounds much better than firing against the glass with an infinite baffle below like the OE setup does.

Are you running a 4 channel amp to those speakers? Makes a HUGE difference. I have MB Quartz with a Pioneer Premier amp BITD, and the shit was baller. Amp got stolen and it sounded like complete shit. Not ever worth their weight in turd with out an amp.

Yeah the best way to improve sound is an external amp. A 150 watt speaker running off 15-20(Alpine is usually the smaller internal amps) is not going to sound nearly as good. I used an Alpine V12 with my 9851 headunit and it sounds perfect, I would upgrade to mb quarts but its a 240 I'll leave the infinity's I bought in it, maybe I'll to what R240NA did in the future when I wanna cover my back deck in vinyl anyways

consider getting a small 4 channel amp to help the deck out.... made a huge difference with my JBL components.

Where'd you guys mount your amps? I want it to look clean and not have wires sticking out. With my old amp it was on the sub box but I hated how all the wires were there. I still have all the RCA cables going to the HU so I can hook that up easily. Only thing is I would need to run a wire from the crossovers to the amp. The crossovers are under each seat.

I never liked the idea of running another amp since I really never thought of a clean way to mount it in the trunk.

I mounted my amp on the little shelf behind the back seat. Just take the carpet off, fit a peice of 1/2" plywood on top of it, and put the carpet back on. Use some self tapping screws to mount your amp. The fasteners holding that carpet will keep everything secure. All the wires run underneath the carpet.

Dam under the seats is the best way (factory toyota style).

Under the dash behind the stereo there is a bit of space.

Cant think of anywhere else.....

I thought about that, but what if you need to adjust some of the settings? Its a bitch just to take it in out and out. I guess you set it, mount it and forget! lol

Pretty much... I just mounted the amp so all the configuration switches would be right there when I flip down the rear seat. Besides, how often will you need to tinker with the settings...

My 4channell Alpine is under a seat as well. Tune it with the seat out and set all your adjustments, then you're done.

And 98koukile- My back deck is wrapped in vinyl, I bought the OE deck without speaker holes and wrapped it. Looks 20x as good as that carpet shit.

Yeah Im all out of room under my seats with the crossovers there. Im going to hunt for a small 2ch amp for my components. Any recommendations??
