anyone know what i need battery wise? now i have a custom intercooler setup on my s13 hatch and the pipeing runs between where the battery normally sits and the side of the rad. so a normal sized battery wont fit. id rather not relocate the battery if i didnt really have to. now what specs do i need to look at when i go battery shopping? this is mostly a track car. no stero etc. all i need the battery to do is start the car and power up the power windows and my aim sports cluster and windsheild wipers if it rains. now would an atv/motorcycle battery be strong enough to start the engine? what kind of CCA do i need to have to start an s14 sr?
all the help would be greatly appreciated.

The westco miata battery will work. However, there are companies that make smaller batteries. http://www.brailleauto.com/

i think ill go with the miata westco battery cause im not willing to pay 150+ for a damm battery lol
but anyone know what kind of cca i need....is that all i should be looking at number wise when buying a battery? cause im planning on going to the auto store and finding the smallest battery and then ill look at the specs.

Go to walmart and pick up a lawnmower battery. I have had mine for 2.5 yrs, and still starts up fine. That is also with radio and subs, pretty much all electrical.
Not to mention I happened to drain it by accident at work by leaving my headlights at work on. I had the shop mechanics jump start it. That happened 1 year after I bought it and still same battery now.

If you read one of the articles by braille it states that there is no industry standard when they post their amps. Some companies who state their CCA are doing their tests at 80 degrees fahrenheit while other companies do their tests at 32 degrees fahrenheit. They state that they do their test at 0 degree fahrenheit for their CCA.

Dont waste your money on a Braille, it is just a rebadged Deka. If you want a small battery that will work well look into the Deka AMU1R, IIRC. It is the same battery that advance and autozone sell for the miata but rebadged.
The sr KA wants 330cca, not sure about an sr. I have an Odyssey pc680 for the street and it works great. I drained twice by accident, set it on a trickle charger to fully deep charge it and were good as new. As long as you you dont do stupid things with your small AGM batteries, they will last along time in nominal weather. If you live in michigan or chtown or something stick with the Deka miata battery, its better than the westco. Here are pics and dimensions of the Deka and the Odyssey

well i got a battery from canadian tire today good ole eliminator battery lol.... comes with 3 year warranty so in 3 years if it dies i bring it back and get a new one free of charge. anyways i tried hooking it up and my track car doesnt have any power....but with a volt meter it shows 12.4 volts.... so obviously i got some more wireing to take care of :(

meh I had one of those PC680's on my last 240 with an SR....wouldnt start for shit in the cold, wouldnt even crank over, just turn the key and then nothing...charged it and it started two days later, same shit...finally I said fuck it and put it in the trunk. battery relocation is seriously easy....If you have all your tools drill bits etc ready to go it'll take you an hour tops

good idea, are those safe for automotive use?

I have never had one problem with mine. I assume they are safe, nothing bad has happened to mine. I live in Arizona so don't get to cold around here but lives up with the heat. Like I said I even have a small system and it still runs strong. Read fine on my volt meter.
I mean it's only $20-28 dollars, give it a try.

You shouldn't need the battery to hold a charge for too long if it's a track car. Just make sure you remember to charge it at night before a track day. From everyone's experience, it sounds like the KA alt. is pretty damn good if a lawnmower battery is working. Good luck on cold starts though.
yeah, your big hurdle with small batteries is the cold cranking amps

For sure, like I said, if you are in a cold place use the Deka 8AMU1R. From autozone it has like a 72 or 84 month warranty rebadged as one of their batteries.
Braille is a good battery, it is made by East Penn Mfg. The makers of Deka, so if u wanna spend the extra $50-$100 for the braille name, its not my money.
Only dif is Deka does not sell a battery in a carbon fiber case, Braille does, but they weigh the same?

12.4v's is already considered a 30% discharge in a battery and isn't good enough to continue testing a vehicle in our industry.
as far as battery types are concerned. reguardless of group sizing, just make sure the battery you're purchasing for your car has the same (or a little higher) CCA's the car is recommended to have
