Hey guys. I'm buying an out of state 240sx, with built KA24DET, full suspension, drivetrain, fuel delivery, etc... The plan is to have an AEM ems installed and tuned where it is now, and then have it shipped. The price is absolutely KILLER. KILLER. I would say, almost once in a lifetime... like if I gave this deal up, I would be a moron.
Now the problem is, yes, I'm in Socal. I'm in the military, but I'm a CA resident, so that kind of rules it out..
What kind of crazy magic can I, a mechanic, or a professional tuning/speed shop do with this 240sx to have it pass smog?
I am willing to do any of the following
-buy a few stock/emissions bolt ons and put those on to get smogged
-pay a shop to tune the car to get closer to passing
-etc
I've also heard crazy stuff about some people out here doing temporary propane conversions to get permanently smog exempted... how good of an alternative is that? Does it affect the car at all? How much is something like that?
And then of course there's plan C.... finding someone who works at a smog test place who "understands" our situation and making a friendly deal. How likely is that? Is that how a lot of you guys are able to drive modded 240s?
It's coming down to the wire, I really want to buy this car, the seller and the car are both awesome and I trust that this car has been taken care of..
Please help!
John
PS: I've searched and read through smog threads, and I'm still searching, but I'm also trying to finalize the buy on this car and I really need to know whether I can legally own this vehicle in CA. If anyone can point me in the right direction I'd really appreciate it. Thanks.
