Man Has 33-Pound Tumor Removed From Face

Chinese surgeons said Tuesday they successfully operated on a man with a massive 33-pound tumor that hung down from his face, obscuring his features and warping his backbone.

More than 10 doctors and nurses took part in the surgery that removed the tumor, said Xu Kecheng, president of Fuda Cancer Hospital in the southern Chinese city of Guangzhou.

Huang Chuncai's facial tumor became noticeable when he was 4-years-old, the hospital said. It grew bigger and more quickly as he grew older, blocking his left eye, pushing his left ear to shoulder level, knocking out his teeth and deforming his backbone.

Huang, 31, had trouble speaking, hearing and eating before the surgery.

Xu said the surgeons' biggest challenge was to avoid massive bleeding because there were large blood vessels in Huang's tumor. One the doctors who operated on Huang, Niu Lizhi, said the surgical team prevented bleeding by freezing the tumor.

Niu said Huang is being closely monitored and is expected to be discharged in a month.

And just imagine, now he'll be able to more or less lead a normal life (edit: Im sure at least after some extensive plastic surgury). Thats gotta be a big adjustment.

Many people in china live very rural lives. some of them will never even see a car. Odds are he was a poor farmer that some way or another was brought to the attention of a do-good doctor.

wow....in all seriousness seeing shit like this just proves the point to me that none of us have shit to complain about. Next time you start to complain about how shitty your life is or how youre not where you want to be or your car sucks blah blah blah....think about people like this and think of how much worse off you could be, fate can be cruel i guess and we all play the hand we're dealt and some of us get seriously screwed for no reason other than fate....hope they fix this guy and help him get his life back
