View Full Version : 4 lug brake kits
Ok, I searched, I swear, so please dont yell at me. I want to get some real brakes on my 1989 hatchback and love my wheels, so I don't want to convert to five lug. I know this question has probably been asked 1,000,000 times. I found one willwood kit through google, but are there any other option?
ok (flame suit on), have at me :) .

You mother fucker!!!!!!!! J/K! Just do Q45 or z32 and drill the rotors to a 4 lug! A buddy of mine did this with q45 brakes 2 weeks ago and loves them!

I had 300zx brakes on the front of my old S14 with 4-lugs. Just re-drill the rotors to suit the 4-lug hub. Easy.

They make rotors and what not for 4 lug wheels. Im sure some slotted rotors, some good brake pads with some braided steel brake lines would do wonders. And some good rubbers is a must. I dont know about drilling rotors. It seems to me like one of those things you dont want to fuck up.

I'm running slotted rotors with Hawk pads and OEM calipers and they work great. Unless you are going to compete your car, OEM brakes with good pads and fluid is all you really need. I don't see the need for 6-bazillion-pot brake kit for street driving, except it'll make ur car looks cool and a target for thef.

As stated before, i would highly recommend the q45 brakes. Its a very easy mod, just bolt on the new calipers and drill new rotors. Drilling rotors to 4 lug is very easy as well. I just use an old hub, take out 3 lug studs and bolt the last lug stud through one of the Five holes on the new rotor. Then just use a good 1/2 inch drill bit and drill the 3 remaining holes on the hub through the new rotor. Just make sure that you drill the holes straight, and i would also make sure you deburr the new holes well. Then just slap on the rotor.
You dont have to upgrade your MC for the q45's. Also you can get Hawk HPS pads for the q45 calipers which I also recommend.
Then just get a good set of pads and rotors for the rear or you can get z32 rear rotors and calipers.

If it fits a 5lug car, it fits a 4lug with nothing more than a drill bit. Why it that so hard for people to understand?

brakes? what the hell are brakes? LOL!!! J/K man. I use z32's as well, and i like them fine. I guess its just going to be whatever you are financially capable of affording. I mean you can go really nutz and get a AEM big brake kit or something like that. I think they make some 4 and 6 pot upgrades, but be ready for a big $ out of your wallet. Kaotik25 says it best, that if you get a high end upgrade for the street, you are looking for trouble with theft!!! good luck on your upgrade.

What do you want to do with the car? Is it going to be a "for show" car where you have 18" rims, low profile tires, and big ass rotors and calipers? Or is this meant for the streets/track events? I'm running stock calipers, stock rotors (soon to be brembo blanks), Hawk HP + pads, stainless steel lines, and synthetic quakerstate brake fluid. By the end of a track event, my brakes still bite as they did before the track event, no mushiness or fading. Like I said, it's all what you want. IMO, upgrade pads, lines, and brake fluid (even that's optional).

Yeah I want to see these wheels that are keeping you so attached to 4 lug... Does anybody on here have that 4 piston front kit that goes for $745?

yep, and i actually answered his inquiry,
it doesn't get any easier than slapping onto a 4 lug, since it came from a 4 lug, and it's larger... i didn't make the product, nissan made it, lol

Has brakes for 4 and 5 lug.

I agree with you with the exception of brake fluid.
You know that if he doesn't put new fluid in there he's riding on the stuff that came with the car when it was new, as noone bothered to change it during the last 15or so years.
Plus its like 10bux for a bottle of SuperBlue. You'd be crazy not to change it.

Oh dear god... Dude get your flame suit on quickly... If youre set on holding on to your 4 lugs for some Sportmax wheels I know a few members on here (read: ALL of them) that are going to want to slap you in public.
i don't give a shit what other people think to be honest with you, I like my wheels, im not trying to impress anyone.
but on another note, thanks for your help guys, and the brakes are just for hpde events for right now, not competing.

I just saw those drilled rotors up yonder. I dont know what I was thinking, but that looks pretty good. I guess my mind was matching up the 4 holes with the 5 holes, and changing the space between the holes and what not... Now that ive seen it, I would do it. But like R240NA said, 630 is a shitload for some used parts. I'd check out some local junk yards, or go to car-part.com. I swear to god thats the greatest site ever.
