Thinking about buying a used intake manifold. Any way I can distinguish between the Greddy and all the fakes out there?
Thanks

all the fakes have shitty cast.. you will see a lot of little holes in the cast
get the seller take a picture of the inside of the intake manifold.
if the inside isn't smooth its a fake

Well, lucky for me, it's a local seller.
So basically, just check to see if the inside is smooth?
Anything else?

my first impression is fake. Could be slightly dirty/never put the Greddy sticker on, but see if you can get a pic with decent lighting inside the throttle body hole.

Thats fake. If it was a greddy, he'd say it was a greddy, and more than likely have the greddy sticker on the manifold. (Why somone would NOT put the sticker on would baffle me). People just buy cheap parts and try to sell them for alot these days.
Look at the pits in the castings, I don't thing a Greddy quality inspector would ever let that fly. They're all six sigma over there.

greddy intake manifolds are cast yes. the outside surface shouldnt be smooth like glass but it should be pretty uniform. as far as the sticker. Greddy includes an emblam on it for you to put after.

my friend bought a real GReddy intake mani and it came with the sticker separate from the manifold. He never put it on... so don't use that to distinguish between fake and real.

He DID tell me it was real Greddy and it is coming from his personal car, which he had alot of money into and I wouldn't think he would buy the fake. I just want to be 100% positive because a few of my friends have the Freddy one and I don't want it.
Thanks for all the feedback.

Let it be known that the Greddy sticker is not attached onto the manifold from the factory. It is packaged in a plastic bag so that the end used determines if they themselves want to put it on or not.
I've sold many REAL ones before so I know.

Its real! ive have never seen a fake with the indentation for a sticker! I personaly own a topspeed manifold(better knock off than ebay) and it doesnt have any indentations at all!
You can buy a fake intake mani with the indentation so don't use that as a guide. If it's real just ask to see the little pamphlet that came with it if possible and examine the casting. You say your friends have the freddys so bring one of em along even and you can compare it side by side.

I bought a real Greddy manifold for my RB25, and the seller lost the sticker.
It came in the trust box, with the blue vacuum lines and Japaneses instructions manual.
I really wish i had that dam sticker.. lol

Oh before anyone asks. The sticker is a 1-2 months special order from Greddy for a replacement.

That is fake,
Do not buy it. They fall apart into your engine.. and the rear fittings start leaking..
I know, because i had one myself..

i owned one of the knockoffs on my old sr and have installed several real Greddy units and its noticeable which is real and which is fake due to the casting. however dont be fooled, the Greddy unit is "better" but far from being a good cast. the inner chamber is alot smoother but you can tell they didnt put much effort into the overall finish on the inside where you can still see small fine cracks from being cooled to fast and small bits of crap that can easily be cold chisled off and other no biggie issues. one that always pissed me off on either real or fake manifolds is the shitty threads. ive had BOTH strip out on numerous occasions.
IMO if your not wanting the bling status and all that funk the knockoff is fine or better if you work it up some, the greddy is for those who just want to bolt on and go and have the money to just get it done.

i had just bought a greedy manifold and should be gettin my car back in a couple days and i need to check it. i bought one of a guy here on the boards who had gotten it painted and the paint job looked like poop. but the shop said that it looks good. (the manifold not the paint) and they are a good shop. ill keep an eye out

I think it's fake due to all the divots in the casting. It's has been buffed to make it look purdy. But, still has alot of pot holes from defects I have never seen on a real one.

i mean the manifold is straight but the paint has runs in it and looks like when they wanted to paint the other side of it they had not let it dry and just flipped it over. but the manifold itself is good.

Well I was told by a mutual friend, whom I trust, that's it's real and the seller had painted it at one point and it came out looking like shit....

This is what a real greddy manifold looks like:

this is what it looks like installed and dirty.lol
http://i200.photobucket.com/albums/aa39/gabriel_ackley/greddymine.jpg
notice that there is a lip around the area where the greddy sticker should be put, not a rectangular grove like in one of the pics posted earlier in this thread.
and no the casting is not really smooth, its is rather rough.

Only BFE boys are proud to rock greddy
^^
That is NOT what a real GREDDY intake manifold looks like for the SR20
The one that is in question looks real to me
The FREDDY intake manifolds usually don't have the divot for the GREDDY sticker

Maybe i didnt explain correctly:
That IS what the Greddy intake mani for an SR20det looks like.yes the real one.
and the greddy picture is of the actual SR manifold, acording the the site.unless they dont know what they are talking about.and it also looks like mine!
oh and (sr240dett3), ill sell you my sticker if you want..lol.
i didnt put it on because the engine's been undergoing a lot of work , dont want to get it messed up,
and yea, they usually come in a Trust box, with japanese manual, and sticker in a plastic bag.

As the owner of the real deal mani...that one is fake. No bordered lip for sticker and the casting surface looks different.

i have one and i had a shop that has been dealing with greedy sence the shop opened and have put on greedy manifolds and i was affriad mine was fake cause of this tread and they told me its real. no doubt. and mine looks like the one pictured earlyer the first one.

;) ok i guess then greddy: (the company ) was also fooled ..lol.. because they advertise their own manifold but they are actually fakes.
"maybe someone snuck in the greddy warehouse and switched all their mani's to the fake ones.(attack of the NINJA part II)"
because they would obviously know what their own manifolds should look like they wouldnt show a picture of a manifold that has a raised grove as a greddy manifold but sell manifolds with the relief.

go to the greddy site and click on the photo for the s13. the emblem dip goes in not out.

the s13 does not have the grove but the s14/s15 does.

There you go, this man saves the day and solves the problem,

I was almost starting to doubt myself, and greddy lol.
