View Full Version : Does this look like a good wiring scheme for Altima fans?

Looks good to me, just wanted someone to proof-read my work.
The idea is to have both fans on low when the car is running, and to have both fans come on high automatically when the ECU grounds the AC Fan relay.
This will be on my stock 80 amp alternator, and then my quest 110 amp alternator that's waiting to go on. (Autozone tested it at 115 amps!)
Sorry about the MSPaint, at least I used photoshop to get the file size down to 9 kb!

There is no point to have to fans running all the time.
I will be using a thermal switch from a honda and using that to activate my fans.

Is this going to be for a Daily?
I have mine straight wired up to a switch inside, along with my fusebox and whatnot,
but thats a race car,
you want the fans on and blowing all the time,
but a daily is a little bit diffrent...

Meh, first draft of the diagram I thought I might as well, since the clutch fan will be gone.

daily, if it were a racecar i'd hook it up to a 100 amp knife switch. can you say "Dr Frankenstein?" :D

I can't think of any except it would wear out the motor quickly and it's a large load on the alternator. I just figured I'd leave em on in the 'low' setting since my clutch fan will be gone.
A couple people have suggested using a fan controller to turn on the lows at about 190* and then to have the highs come on at 205/210... that way the lows turn on when things get hot, but if they dont do the trick, the highs come on after. :yum:

I run my $17 taurus fan on low all the time. . I have AC and an uncut bumper.. never overheats on Low, havnt bothered with the high setting, but you guys think the high could just be run to the AC relay?

clutch fan is definitely better if you have a choice.
If not, I would just straight up wire it to the fuel pump

Old bump, i know..
But why would you wire it strait to the fuel pump? For the record, i'm an electrical I D I O T...
However, i just dont see a point in wiring anything off the fuel pump. If anything, would that take current away from the pump? Why nut just run a fan controller from autozone for 30 bucks, and draw power directly off the battery?

You wire it to the fuel pump fuse, and spit that out to to a relay. The relay then outputs the power you need to the fans. This is the easiest way to do it if you want ignition = on to also equal fans = on.
So on your standard bosch relay:
85: wire from fp fuse (+)
86: ground (-)
87a: dont wire
87: battery (+)
30: to altima fans (+)
fuse a 30A between the 30 wire and the altima fan connection

But seriously, no one needs altima fans or any fans on all the time. Thats just wasted power. Only time you need the fans are at idle and >5 mph driving.
Edit: Plus, how come it says my rep power is 5 but i only have 3 green boxs?! What gives!?!?

I just wired mine direct to the fusebox. When the key is on the ON position the fan is on.

I understand its just to flip the relay, but it still seems like there are PLENTY of other power wires that turn on with the key, besides the most important one in the entire car(fuel pump). Again, i'm an electrical idiot, but it just doesnt seem logical.... or am i just being overly paranoid?

IMO, any extra cooling on a KA is nice to have...:hsdance:
My fans have been wired to switches in the past...or water temp sensors

Of course there's other wires, the fuel pump is the quickest and easiest, and if you're not an "electrical idiot" you have nothing to be paranoid about.

whenever the fans are running they are drawing current(power) away from the motor, yes?
