I heard a trick before of running a vehicle to nearly empty(about 2 gallons left) and then adding 2 gallons of a certain fuel... Supposedly it will nearly guarantee a smog pass.
My question- Was that ethenol or methanol?
Suggestions/ideas?
PS- Please don't say tune up, timing, gas cap, or anything else mechanical. Its been done.

Which part of the smog are you not passing? I posted up my smog results a couple of years back and someone was able to tell me the areas I needed to work on to pass.
On another car I bought one of those "Guaranteed to Pass Smog" additives and used higher octane fuel, drove around a few miles to warm things up a bit and passed.

my friends and i were just talking about this last nite, im going to try to pass my sohc that hasnt ran in a year, i was told that if you run it for a while then put 100 octane in it or the highest with out lead and then take it in. or get denatured alcohal and put it in right before you smog it you cant drive it though itll smell like shit.

Isn't denaturated alcohol the same as ethanol?
The thing is, i need to sell this ASAP, am SUPER SUPER short on time(working 60 or 70hr weeks) and just want it done. I've taken all the proper precautions to pass smog, but if i can just throw a couple gallons of something in there to HELP it, i'd do it.
Its an older, semi-worn vehicle that may be border-line... Not to mention i cant afford to throw a new cat on there. (it has one, but i'm not sure if it functions correctly.)
