I have a 97 240...stock except for an intake...i went to install a new set of Sylvania Silverstars and i disconnected the negative battery terminal...but when i was finished and reconnected it there is a clicking noise that wont stop even if the key isn't in the ignition(sounds similar to turn signal/hazard lights...but not the lights i already checked) and the little red light to the left of the gauge cluster is blinking and my car wont start.

What happens when you turn the key? lights dim? does it turn over? noise from the starter? dont know what the ticking is but get the battery checked.

Have you tried a jump start?

havent tried a jump start but i know that it cannot be the battery because i was driving the car and it was fine before i disconnected the battery. There are no dimming lights or anything im starting to think that it is an alarm system that might be on the car, not letting it start or something...the clicking noise is the front corner, side markers, and brake lights flashing...pretty sure its the alarm...does any1 know how to deactivate it?

don't mean to bump a dead thread but I am having almost the same issue with my s13. I bought it, drove it home, drove it around the neighborhood a few times, went to crank it saturday, nothing......lights work, jumping it doesn't help. I am about to go tap on the starter and see if that works.

easiest won't start fix ever. Look at the clutch pedal and see that little round thing that activates the clutch engaged start switch, the little plastic piece broke off.

100 mph tape, 1 year 2004 US mint dime, 30 seconds=won't start problem fixed!!!

so ghetto

The clutch interlock. I just had to wire mine straight thru and did away with the interlock all together. It's the same piece as the guys is talking about above but I rigged my kick down switch straight thru and that didn't work either so I checked the clutch interlock relay and it was that that was keeping the car from starting. So I just cut the connectors off and wired it straight thru. Now no more starting problems :). You guys might have blown that by accident when you disconnected and reconnected the battery.

Just fixed the problem i found the alarm, disconnected the box and reconnected the starter motor wire with the ignition wire and it started and ran perfectly.
