So i go to a resteraunt, eat, come out and my car wont start. Everything powers on, my stereo runs great for 5 mins with no death. There is no crank, click, nothing. I am going to search after i post this as i believe it could be 1 of 3 things i guess, but i wanna know one thing that i doubt i will find in the search.
My car alarm is equipped with a kill switch. when the alarm is active i get the same results as i get right now. I turned my alarm off and on repeatedly trying to get it to disengage. I bought the car with the stereo and alarm in it so i dont wanna go ripping wires out. So my question is this: is there a way i can deactivate my alarm so this kill switch idea goes away and can be taken out of the loop? I would hate to rip out my starter, plugs, wires, distributer, etc. to find out it was my alarm all along.
My car ran like it would every other day, nothing different at all. So i'm really really stuck. help would be very appreciated as i am not exactly one for electrical stuff.
*update* got it deck trucked to my house, it started after playin with some wires, now it wont start again after i shut it off.

probably your alarm crapping out. if it has ignition switch kill on it which it probably does, all you have to do is go under ur dash below the steering wheel and find one of the ignition switch wire that has been cut and the two end are connected to the alarm. cut the wires and connect them back together so that they don't have to go through the alarm anymore. If this isn't the problem it could be your ignition switch gone bad. These are only a couple of reasons why you have ur problem. Hopefully this is some help to u.

Check your battery voltage first :D +/- 12VDC probably high 11's...
Check the alarm for loose pins or pins that may have fallen out of their socket. Alarms can do this, making it a real pita to diagnose. other possibility is connection and/or failure to starting circuit for possibility: alternator, ignition (keyhole). Starters and alternators will sometimes fail around 80K

It could also be your started, cause on my friends car he had exactly the same thing happen, no click, no crank, all the lights work fine. All we did is knock on the started a bit with a hammer, and she started right up. Hope this helps

well i gave up for the night and came back this morning and it started up no prob. Haven't driven it, but i'm sure it will shut off and not start again.
Nothing was pulled apart or messed around with after it didnt start the second time.
So if nothing was touched to fix the problem, what would cause that? I'm still betting on my alarm, but more insight wouuld be great
If you try to start it again, and it doesn't start try tapping the starter with something like a pipe or a hammer. If that works then you definantly need to replace the starter or the solenoid.

i'm confident its not the starter. there were no signs of it going and when it does start up on me now, it starts up like a charm.

check your alternator. the two connectors there might not be properly fastened/.

your alternator has what to do with engine starting? Granted once your car is started the alternator kicks on power to save the battery, it has absolutely nothing to do with your starter.
Now it does sound like you have a loose wire or connection somewhere, and I'm betting it has to do with your starter signal wire if not your car alarm. Those would be the first 2 things I would look at, if that fails and car is still giving you problems dig deeper, could be your starter going out from old age. Which BTW, can you push start your car then? If so, I doubt it's your car alarm.

Of course 20 til, the alternator has nothing to do with starting but everything to do with battery life. Granted, he'd at least hear a slooooow cranking if it was a dying battery, and not even a click if the circuit was open. Which is what he stated. SO, we rule that one out.
Glad to hear it starts up fine, I remember this happened to my Saturn and I ended up replacing the Starter shortly after.

I would probably say it might be a loose connection on the starter. Make sure all the wires are tight on that.

ok, so i haven't had a chance to check my car out due to various reasons. However i just wanna get some opinions on this some more.
i was able to start it yesterday when i got off work and i drove it around (found out about myf'd suspension) and i shut it off, went inside for a bit, came out and it wouldnt start again. I left for 5 or so hours, tried again. nothing. Left it over night and just tried it here at 5pm and it started up. I shut it down again and haven't tried since (had to go to my other job).
So what would you guys think this could be. I'm still going with my alarm kill switch, but now i'm thinkin it could be the starter, but if it was the starter, wouldnt it still click or crank or do atleast something.
a loose wire doesnt make sense because i cant find one, and if it wont start and nothing is moved and hours later it starts again, then well... yeah.
Sorry, i havent had a chance to look yet, so i'm kinda benchin it and cant get it off my mind. friends and co-workers are car clueless.

intermittent problem.... hmmm..... looks like you're getting rain but average temps there in Canada... You know where to look, it's the starter circuit which involves (1) ignition (2) alternator (3) Starter (4) Battery (5) Fuse (6) POS Alarm, lol
other than that, what do you experience when key is in "on" position?
