I'm 99.9% sure that a stock turbo from a 300zxTT has an internal wastegate.

yes i second that. kinda hard to think a stock turbo coming with an external wastegate. i could be wrong about that though..
If you look at a turbo w/ internal wastegate, you will see the little cylindrical metal piece skewered by a metal... well, skewer that's attached to the exhaust side. This is the wastegate actuator (errrr technical name might be wrong) and indicates an internal wastegate. Looking at the exhaust turbine, you will also notice a second "hole" to the side of the turbine, which is where exhaust gasses can go when the internal wastegate opens.
On a turbo w/out an internal wastegate, you'll just notice that the turbo looks very simple and straightforward; no fancy skewers or secondary openings. <img src="http://www.zilvia.net/f/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/thumbs-up.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=''>

most Audis and Porsches from the 80s and early 90s had external gates. in fact, on the Audis it was right there for everyone to see....it's right there on the left by the airbox:

but you're right, the Z was internally gated.
