Hi,

Sorry, I have a newb question here *flame suit on*. But I was just curious, which turbos can bolt directly into the stock RB25DET other than the stock turbo... Also, what is the sizing or name of the stock RB25DET turbo?

Thanks

ok, the thing i did know was the turbo was T3 but is there a specific name for the turbo such as a T25 or a T28 etc.. I know its not a T25 or T28 though =D or is the turbo just called the T3 turbo?? just looking for something that can go straight in place of the stock turbo without any modifications.

hks has turbo that will go on with any modification.

heres pictures from one of my rb s13s with hks gt2535. bolts right up no modifications required

lbmotoring said t3 flange type. of course s15 turbo etc wont fit. b/c its t2 type.

thats why he gave the flange size. t3.

theres too many turbo manufactuers out there (masterpower, KKK, mitsubushi, turbonetics, garrett, prescison) to name every turbo. turbo names are just marketing ploys. garett has names like gt35r, gt2871r. hks has names like gt3037r, gt-rs,etc. turbonetics has y2k, thumper, rajay, grand national, t series. precision turbos has different names etc.

even though they have diffrent names, what you want to really know is what flange type it is because turbo companies usually build turbos based on common flange types. and there are many different types of flanges as well.

besides names, you want to know the specs. like a/r, turbo housing sizing, compressor wheel specs, etc. knowing more about specs to use for your application is what's important.

its like him asking what kind of food is good for my stomache. theres lots of names to shit you can eat.. like big mac, mucho grande nacho, chilli weiner, wombo kombo, italian bmt sandwich, pho, asian chicken salad etc. he isnt going to list the names of every food.. by saying t3, type its like saying food type like hamburger, hotdog, noodles, rice, pizza, pasta. from there he can find the specs of food he wants from knowing the "type". say someone says hamburger type. then he can decide if he wants big mac, whopper, famous star, etc which are just NAMES of hamburgers. turbo specs are like ingreidients of the burger. so the specs of big mac = shit patties, secret sauce, sesame buns, diced onions, etc. specs of whopper = flame broiled meat, lots of ketchup, tomatoes. specs of carls jr = grilled meat, fresh lettuce, too much mayo, ketchup, mustard, etc. you have to pick a burger that fits your craving like you have to choose a turbo that fits your application.

hope this helps.

good point. but how? isnt gt2535 a t2 flange. unless you swapped your rb manifold to a t2 type flange or have a flange adaptor from t3->t2.

gt30/71r i'd say is about the most fun, quick spool makes all the power you'll need for an easy 400hp. u see my sig, all i have is 1.2 mm commetic headgasket and arp studs. stock head, cams, pistons, rods all stock.

if you want 550ish hp go with a gt35r, it's a little more lag but it's a good turbo too, a friend's doing [email protected] (that's a lot of friggin boost tho lol).

please don't be cheap and get an ebay t3/t4, do it right, get a ball bearing turbo. don't you like when people pull up to you and they're like "is that an sr20" and you're like "no it's an rb" and they're like "rb20" and you're like "no rb25" oooOOOoo "is it fast?" "well it's quick, i'm using a shitty ebay turbo".......

so yeah use the ebay turbo and make 280hp and be quick, or get a ball bearing turbo and be FAST. you pay for what you get and ball bearing turbo's fuckin own. it's like struts and springs, and then you get full coil overs, you're like this is good but coil overs owns upgraded strut/springs. same thing with turbos. journal turbo's are ok...but when you let your car idle, and still hear the turbo spinning, not to mention the response and longevity. while homie's brake boosting next to you making 100 less hp than you and running more boost, and you just roll on and smoke that shit. you'll be glad you did.

it's all the difference from "decent swap" and "damn that shit's nice as hell!"
