MAX coilovers are stiff. I daily drive my car, and at times it gets rough, but I can handle it. For the price it's a great option as a first coilover, along with Stance and KTS. It's better than buying Megan or other cheap coilovers, cause these are backed and sold by people who use them. The guys at MAX are cool too. These are probably the beefiest coilovers I've ever seen, very well constructed. Next time I'll save money for Zeal.

What model of zeals did you have and what was the spring rate? Im running the super functions 10/8 and 6 way dampning and i had it set at 3 and shit was way stiffer than my bros stances at full hard, i have it set at 1 right now and your right it is soft but as soon as you turn it up to 3 it was a BIG difference from 1 i can only imagine what 6 would be LOL.

Once you dial in preload and what not it's like sex.

Don't use your age as an excuse for bad product.

When I was that age I didn't have one shit part on my old car.

It's all how you decide to spend your money.

There is nothing wrong with saving up money.

I'll respect someone more who is saving money and rolling around a stock car just to afford what they want than someone who ruses and has plenty of crappy parts.

Op: Stop harping on you racing around the roads. Run full soft or run stock.

Nothing is wrong with stock.

TheSquidd
07-13-2007, 02:38 PM
Eh saving up is cool, but if it gets in the way of you DRIVING (and I mean this more as a driving drifting tracks thing) it's bad. If you're seeing events pop up all summer and saying "well I gotta have wheels and suspension first", fuck, that sucks, because the enjoyment you get out of those wheels or suspension isn't going to mean jack squat if you passed up on DRIVING.

That's like buying a Ferrari and putting it in the garage because now you can't afford to fix it if it breaks.

Sometimes it's okay to get stuff that WORKS and isn't baller ass product if it means you can goto 2 more drift events with the money you saved and you still can drive the same.

I mainly apply this philosophy to wheels and aerodynamics. Neither really affects your performance, but both can be incredibly expensive if you want to buy legit parts.

Back on topic:

Me, I bought Silkroad / Section RM/A8's. They are the first and only coilover I've had (and I'm a shitty driver), so take my words with a grain of salt, but I love them.

I daily drove my car for 2 years on them, and have attended numerous events with them, and they are still buttery smooth, but not sloppy at ALL. Super durable, which is good because if one of them blows I have to ship them to Japanland to get them rebuilt.

And, My car is slammed with tons of room in rear to go and I could probably pull a collar up front and be on the floor tucking 17"s.

Best feature PERIOD: 8 way adjustable. FUCK YEAH. No more remembering "OH SHIT am I on 15 or 16 in the front, oh fuck fuck shit", 8 clicks. Done. Each click is NOTICEABLE in your driving. You can feel the change. Wow.

Criticisms:

-Of course that they need to be rebuilt out of the country, very long and difficult process.
-They are a tad expensive, about 1200$ if you can get a hookup.
-And you have to make sure the bolts on the spindle are tight as shit, they are a lower camber adjustment and if they come loose your whole spindle will pivot and wobble like a mad man. Ask me how I know.
-Collars siezed on me once, and they are a pretty lightweight aluminum so you can't beat the shit out of them to get them loose, but a can of PB Blast got them spinning again.

And to the guy that says you have to sacrifice ride comfort for performance, wrong. My coilovers are smooth as butter on the streets (pot holes and such are rough, but I've felt way worse) and when I goto the track I dial a couple notches in the rear and we're brain rattling stiff.

Not that I like that setting, I run about 4 or 5 in rear and 3 up front. Smooth drifting > feeling like a "race car" stiff but getting no traction because your whole car is vibrating all of the energy out of it.

My car has nice ass coil overs but it handles like SHIT because it has stock arms and is so low my bump steer is like riding a bull.

It'll have 18kg front and 16kg rear spring rates, and 128 way adjustable dampeners.

It'll be pink and black with rainbow flake.

I'll have a little anime or monster character, it's on all the packaging and key chains and shit.

I went with stance for many reasons.
1. ALOT of experienced drivers in the Midwest have used them extensively in competition.
2. THeir home is right in my backyard and they offer excellent tech support in my area, if i have any problems i just drive to Touge Factory and they take care of it asap.
3. THey go as low if not lower than most coilovers available in the US right now. THis is important when your on failass 15's.
4. The reviews ive read about them were very good, and alot of dudes i were switching to Stance from stuff like, Tein SD, SilkRoad, JIC, so the comparisons were legit comparisons against known brands by experienced drivers......i could go on and on...................ill stop now...

I'm looking to get some coilover really soon now. At this point in time I'm looking at:
KTS - a lot of good reviews and comments about it. The price is hella low. SPL ftw.
Stances - same + a lil more. no SPL.
or/maybe Apexi - well yeah... I read a lot about there coilover overs. Not cheap...

Anyways read up and research a lot before you buy something for you car. That's what I do at least.

I ran Flexes on my car. They are quality coilovers. But they are built for comfort, so don't expect super aggressive coilover action. They also go super low. I was tucking my 15s at one point, lol. They rode awesome. People wouldn't believe they were coilovers because the ride was so smooth.
