So im sitting here being bored and i start to think, why did the the silvia people start at S13, why not like S1. Why was the first one called a S13, was there some certian reason for 13, was that the founders lucky number or something, I heard somewhere that there was a S12 but i dunno lol, if so why 12?
If anyone has these answer. Please share them with me..

I'm bored too, but here's a thought. I think that S13 is the first of the Silvia chassis assemblies. There were probably 12 predecessors that were just prototypes or test units (I don't think the S12 counts as a Silvia, I don't know) And on the 13th try, they (Nissan Engineers) finally agreed upon the final chassis. So the S13 was born. The S14 is basically the same chassis but with a few modifications, as is the same for S15. Hope this makes a little sense. Something for you to think about.

Ok first off to dispel some of the misinformation some of you have posted.
the Silvia was first produced in Japan back in 1966-67. The first Silvia to see American shores was the 1977 200sx guidiot does a good job of chronology after that except his typo on the first american S13's having KA24De's we all know he meant Ka24e. Oh ya remember that the second generation of the 200sx came in two versions hatch and sedan or coupe . In Japan the coupe was a Silvia and the hatch was a Gazelle the Gazelle would evolve into the 180sx and the Siliva would stay a Silvia clear through later incarnations of it. The 180sx also would have a extremely long production run (89-98) due to its popularity compared to the Silvia which would go through farely major body redesign i.e. S13 to S14 to S15. While the 180sx would remain pretty much the same body design the whole time.
S15's are no longer sold new in Japan they have been discontinued.
There is word that there will be a new Silvia but the S chassis series is dead .
That also coincedes with the Skyline chassis series because the Skyline was actually based on the S chassis series design concept as well.
The new Skyline is indeed out already and remember not all Skylines were sports cars there was also the luxury sport version. That car is the Infiniti G35 and G35 coupe . My Japanese friends have confirmed what I suspected about the G35.
Now the word is their will be a GTR but Nissan has officially separated the GTR badge from the Skyline badge. It is due sometime in 2004 which is the time frame on a possible new Silvia.
Expect both to based on Nissans current xq chassis series of which the 350z is based on.
Nissan is involved in an aggressive roll out of new models over the next 18 months. They are in the black and showing profit while some of their competitors are not doing as well.
Carlos Ghosn has brought the company back from near dead and is keeping the tradition a legend going.

Minor correction. The S110 and S12 Silvia were available as coupes or fastbacks, and the Gazelle was just the same car rebadged and sold through a differet dealer network. They also had different grilles and little trim stuff like that. The level of trim and the packages were mostly the same.

They're interesting cars. Most people are only interested in the S13+ because of the level of technology and balanced chassis. The early cars were fun in their own right, though.

if the new GTR comes on the same frame as the G35, i don't think i'll count it as a GTR and just say the GTR died with the R34...not that the G35 is a bad frame or car...its just...how many cars can you make using the same platform...GTR deserves its own Chassis...or it could share it with the new Silvia
