Hi guys, i've tried replacing gauge cluster 1x, and VSS 2x, but my car will still not read speed. It is a 93 hatch, At -> Mt conversion though. Reverse lights were easy, but I can't get the vehicle to read speed, so basically I'm ready to hardwire the vss to the ecu or wherever it needs to go. I know theres a green wire and a black wire, I'm guessing the black wires a ground. Am I right? and where should I direct the green wire to?
Thanks

No. Check the FSM.
The green and black plug into a yellow/red and yellow/black in the lower harness, these both go through the SMJ to the cluster. From the cluster, the single yellow/green wire sends the signal to the ASCD, ATC, and ECU.
Basically you can run both wires right up near the shifter straight to the cluster, the output on the yellow/green should be fine from there on.

Awesome. I'm at work and can't download fsm on this computer. So I should hardwire the Green and Black wires from speed sensor straight to the Y/Blk and Y/G wires that go to the cluster plug? Or do they "change color" after they go through the SMJ? Thanks again.
+1 to you btw

Take the cluster out and find the two pins going into the back of it, I was mistaken it's yellow/blue and yellow/black. They go through the white plug on the cluster subharness. You can tie in right there and drop the pair of leads down through the tunnel, to the VSS.

Here's an easy fix. You know the old auto tranny wiring harness right? Well the same two wires than run speed signal to the gauges are useful with the manual. Hopefully you still have it.
I just took the auto harness, gutted it down to just the wires i needed for the speed sensor (green and black IIRC), it's the second connector down at the fuse box location that you will be using IIRC. I'll have to look at mine when I get home.
Of course if you've already tried this route then nevermind. really it took me about an hour to realize this step after reading the auto-manual swap how to. I almost did what you're going to do, seems like alot of work and will probably look like ass. Plus you don't want to tamper with the dash wiring harness unless you have no other choice. Everytime I've done it I released a new 240 gremlin that haunts my dreams.
I'll repost the exact colors and connector later. GL

see i tried that but no work :(

Bump what R240NA suggested worked, the red/black wire went to a white plug behind the cluster, and the red/blue wire from the vss went to the red/blue to the black plug behind the cluster.
THanks!
EDIT:
Now I have to get the speedo in my s14 at->mt working.. it has an s13 sr w/ s13 vss... I have to get an s14 mt vss for it to work correct?

Correct. S14 cluster = S14 VSS.

my speedo also does not work and i have checked as many connections as i can find....but i can not find a problem. i have also switched to another used speed sensor(does the same thing as the first one). i wonder if i run my own wires straight to the gauge from the sensor....will my cruize still work??? (ps. the problem i am having is that the gauge jumps around and then doesn't work at all for a while then works fine for a bit, then repeats.....mostly doesn't work at all....lol.) sorry for cutting in on this post but it sounds like you guys know whats up....thanks.

I had the same problem in my car. I tried differant VSS... Checked connections on the wiring for continuity, even drove with a volt meter hooked up. I ended up putting a differant cluster in and that has solved my problem.

Cruise will be fine. The schematic goes:
VSS -> cluster -> ASCD, ATC, ECU.
