i noticed that ive been getting really shitty miles, maybe around 12mpg if im lucky, i boost it every once in awhile, maybe once a day. the guy that i bought my car told me that if i shift at 2.5k i will still be getting like 16 mpg. im like 'WTF?!' is that really possible on a bone stock sr?...i mean i was expecting atleast 23-25mpg when shifting at 3k on a stock SR20det.
i searched and i see alot of people with stock sr20s get around 22mpg.
is this guy for real?...or is he BSing?
what MPG should be fair on a sr? say about boosting once a day or so..

somethings obviously not right,
make sure maf is good/clean, check for vacuum leaks, check/replace spark plugs, check injectors, check/replace o2 sensor, exhaust leak, fuel line, fuel pump, fuel filter...

my guess is that you have a fouled out 02 sensor.
for future refrence, you should put stuff like this in the tech section next time.

I get 25mpg all day long on a pretty stock blacktop. Doing 70mph on average.

I get just between 19-22 city or highway with my setup(built KA-T, gt32, 75lb. injectors). and I use and abuse my car everyday.
I also think I am going to add a cruise control system, if i hit a bump on the highway at 75-80mph I well hit 10psi just from the movement of my foot. a obvious gas mileage killer.

Wei240 said it right. Have a clean sr, you will get better mpg. I use to have a very clean motor and get 25mpg that includes beating on it.

the more city driving you do, the less MPG you will get...
consistent speed on the highway is where the real savings are at...

lol u lucky i'm gettin like 10 i have boost leak, and tuned ecu but can't figure out for what. and my untuned stock ecu doesn't seem to work. i've tried everything but tomorrow i'm rewiring the whole car so hopefully that works.

Check o2, coolant temp sensor- (mine was bad), timing, vacum, exhaust leak, Maf, and Maf wiring. Make sure you aren't throwing a code on your ECU.
I was getting 200 miles tops from a full tank of gas for a while. Now I can get around 250 - 260 and that is with a bad turbo gasket (outlet) and behaving behind the wheel.
It is a good idea to check sensors, these motors are old regardless of mileage.
Hope this helps.

If you're running a redtop sr20det ecu (62) then you should have the skinny o2 sensor a 17mm wrench can fit on.
If you're running a blacktop sr20det ecu (E5) then you should have the fatty o2 sensor - 7/8" wrench can fit on.
check that
