Ok, unfortunately I was helping a friend get his car running and we put my ECU in his car, and his wiring was messed up and so it smoked my ECU.

Well long story short I had a friend in Japan send me an ECU, and I just got it and he sent the wrong one. I had (and specified) a #62 ECU, and he sent an E5.

As far as I can gather the E5 is the S13 blacktop ECU, and AFAIK there were little to no differences between the S13 redtop and blacktop.
The only thing I have found is one Ebay add saying the E5 will work in a redtop, but thats not enough for me to risk throwing it in there.

So will this E5 ECU work with my redrop SR?
Thanks in advance!

(BTW I did search)

A simple yes or no would have sufficed...but that is a good referance.

Still I am not sure I understand its meaning. Does that mean all RWD SR ECU's are the same except the J4?

Incidentally it looks like my friends MAF is wired wrong.

Well your picture makes even less sense now, because I tried the ECU in my car and it did not work.
The car would almost fire for brief moments (after cranking for several sec) but would not run.

So my thought is the wiring might be the same but the sensors have different settings.

Not that it matters so much anymore, but does anyone know the difference between the S13 Redtop and Blacktop?

the e5 ecu will work on all the redops and vice versa. Sensors and such wont matter

so i have to think something else was toasted during your mishap

Itll work...how do I know...cuz I did it on my car. E5 and 62 has the same pinouts. The only blacktop ECU that wont work is the later model Type-X 180 ECU cuz there are some difference in the pinouts.

Thanks Ray!

Actually...this was interesting...I put it back on and it was doing the same thing...cranking for a while then sputtering.
Tried this for a while, and finally I got out and smelled fuel...so...Duh it was flooded.
Floored it and bam it fired right up and idled!

Awesome! Thanks again ray (hes the one who sent me the ECU).

Come on man, would I really do you dirty by sending you the wrong ECU? It could be broke cuz theres no way for me to check, but to intentionally send you something thats gonna become a paperweight, I couldnt possible do that to you... :mepoke: Sorry it didnt get there in time for your track event...atleast im assuming its on saturday...

No man that wasn't sarcasm or anything I was thanking you...it works great now.
Not sure why I initially had a problem...guess it needed to relearn the motor or something but it flooded the motor so then it wouldnt start till I floored it and it cleared the fuel out. Drove it all over to cruise ins and such, tonight. And the shipping was fine...I just got worried about the tracking cause I have little faith in USPS.

As per usual it ran better and better the more I flogged it. For some reason she doens't like too much downtime.
