I swapped an s13 sr into my 92 DOHC s13. Since the swap, i can't get my powersteering to work correctly. I bough another SR pump from a guy on here who said it worked(i have no idea if it does) but i have the same problems. I have spacers and tie rod ends, and when i move the car(wheels off ground) to full lock the level drops, but i then move it to center and the fluid rises back up. I undid one of the hardlines on the steering rack and emptied out the system, and filled it back up with ATF and i still don't have powersteering. No large leaks are apparent, and the fluid level stays constant and there is no bubbling. Any ideas? Could it be another bad pump? I searchd a bunch, but didn't come up with much.

SR ps pump = ka24de ps pump(just have to change the sr pulley to ka ps pump)
Are you bleeding the powersteering system correctly? If you are I would assume another bad ps pump or maybe you forgot to put the ps belt on and tighten?

try this for a change.....take out the tierod end from the hub and try to turn the whhel left right by hand....if the wheel moves freeley ur good if not then it could just simply be the bearing in the top plate thats seized

May also be the U-joint. I had a bad steering problem and that turned out to be the culprit.

okay. seems like i have things worked out. Question though, i swapped in the ka pump, changed the pulley and put everything on and it seemed good. But at low rpms it seems intermitent. I used ATF and the fluid level is good, everything's tight. I was also wondering if the fluid could be getting very hot because it's next to my topmount turbo and hotpipe, thus causing the intermitent PS. Thanks for everyones help.

your whole problem is that you have power steering!!! Not many people remove it, I did. I love the way the car drives without it. It is so much more responsive and feels a lot better when I drift. Its only kinda difficult once in a while when i have to make tight, slow, sharp turns but still isn't anything that bothers me.

^^^ Orange donkey - I also run no P/S, makes the car into a go-kart (if you have wheels/tires and suspension), some like it some don't. For the record, it's NOT better for drifting.
Defiant: Yes, you may be overheating your fluid. Try wrapping aluminum foil (a few layers) around the reservoir hose and see if it improves.

for the record....I was saying I like it better for drifting. I think it feels much better than when I had p/s.

i ran 2 events with no powersteering. our events in midwest are tighter tracks and my arms felt like they were going to fall off. i'll try a cooler and maybe some heat wrap.
