I don't know the whole story behind it but damn I watched the video and thought wow all of this over some skateboarders.
Seriously, shouldn't the cops be out doing something better.
I mean he had those two kids in a choke hold. Damn....

LOL at the kids running away from the cop haha

Um. Those kids were acting like punks.
He was controlling them.
Girl in grey had decent tits for a skater at least.

07-05-2007, 02:24 PM
yeah that cop had the girl and the guy in the choke hold, then tossed his ass on the sidewalk. I thought that was unnecessary. I'd be pissed if the cop did that to me.

Skateboarding is illegal in that part of town. Therefore they were breaking the law. The fact that the girl was able to wiggle free of the "choke hold" and take off again means it wasn't that serious of a hold.
Now, could he have handled it better? Possibly.
Is skateboarding a serious crime? Not usually.
Should the kids have run? No
Should the Officer be Prosecuted? No, but he should be reprimanded.
Bottom line. If it is illegal to do something, somewhere. Don't go there and do it. :duh:

The kid filming wasn't doing anything. The cop was all like "you're resisting arrest" and screaming so loud "you're skateboarding!" read the little paragraph about it... so messed up.
If that happened to anyone in my skate crew when i was younger that cop would have got a truck to the face.

I concur.
I don't think anyone would want to be restrained like that.
But what led up to that? I'm sure something went down before this for him to be so angered.
If they were skating in that area it was crowded and someone could've potentially been injured. Or it would detract from people wanting to shop inside the store they were in front of.
Kid ran. Yeah. That was dumb.
If they listened in the first place and respected an elder/authority I'm sure it would've gone down different.

OMG! If that pig were to put his hands on my little sister i would have beat the shit out of him. sadly this goes on everyday in cali for skaters. cops have nothing better to do then act like this towards us. He is a bigg tuff guy with little kids ridding by on skateboards, lets see how he fairs up against the 35 year pimp, or the average gangbanger who could be packing heat. He used way to much force on those kids, and they didn't do shit to him. so i guess we should become a cop and be above the law. And yes i understand that they shouldn't be ridding the skateboards in that area, but does that really make it ok to choke two kids, and tell one if you move im going to spray you with mace?
!Zar!
07-05-2007, 02:30 PM
LOL
You are funny.
People naturally side against the cops.
Making every excuse possible.
FAIL
Edit You think cops are afraid of pimps and what not? Yes they are but that won't stop them. Cops die every year doing their job. You can be tough guy all you want. Piss off a cop too much and you'll get your ass shot.
Are there corrupt cops. Yes. Was this a case of one, no.

I know that skateboarding is not illegal obviously where this situation took place.
But the officer has other equipment on him such as mase, taser, or baton. That he could've used. I've done all the training in that field in the military as force security. There's steps to follow. And I know that perhaps he was under stress and just doing what he thought at the time was the correct action to do.
But he should be punished for using choke hold on the kids though. What if he had apply too much pressure and collapsed the kid's trachea and they die on the scene. It didn't happen but it could've. If he had just sprayed one kid with the mase then I'm sure the rest would be like fuck that I'm not getting sprayed so I'll sit here and comply.
I rather be kicked in the balls for ten mins straight then to be sprayed with mase/oc myself again.

This kinda stuff sucks either way.
He was probably a little excessive, but when you adrenaline is going and you have a bunch of punk ass kids not shutting the fuck up and cooperating, it's gonna piss you off. Cop or not.
I feel bad for skateboarders in general. I mean I understand why it's illegal in some places, but I only understood it when I got older. Fuck if I want some kid skating on the building I own, breaking their arm, and then suing me for it.
There needs to be more skate parks for these kids. Not all of them would use'em, but the more there are the less kids on the streets.
I hate corrupt cops. I hate dickhead faggot cops too.
I don't think in this case he was either. Just got a little too worked up and didn't control himself wel,, but liek I said, it was understandable.
And Mlogue84, I'd like to see you do that, and then see what you look like after spending 6 months in jail.

dam... I remember when I was younger and me and my friends used to skate at spots and get busted... tickets, warnings, and kick outs were the most... but never a head lock or choke hold.
most of the time we ran, but cops didn't give a fuck cuz we were just skating... its not like we were doing drugs or taggin up walls.
and most of the time, it was the rent-a-cops that dealt with us rather than the real PD.

All im saying is he is a officer of hte law, and should be able to control himself in situations like this. which he showed he couldn't, I mean he chased a kid through a intersection, thank god no one got hit. adrenalin, If he got worked up over skate boarding i would hate to see him under so real pressure, store getting robbed, mugging, he would bust under that pressure if he can't handle this situation. I do feel his pain with those lil bastards, but i don't feel he did the right thing.

That's the point he's making. An officer of the law has a LOT more ways to exert force on a perp than a choke hold, and those kids are lucky he didn't enact those means of subduing them.
As stated before, this video is cleverly edited, and those kids basically broke the law in a bunch of ways, asked for it.
The cops a dick, but he did his job.

i understand why skate boarding is illegal in some places, but I think the guy went over board a little bit. I mean, if he was dealing with someone speeding and they decided to go like say 120 mph to get away, he would have to let them go. Same thing here, if those kids decided to run he should have let them. I feel bad for kids who get criminal records over shit like this because your file doesn't say skateboarding, it says, trespassing, resisting arrest, destruction of property, disturbing the peace, blah blah blah

I think it was a bit excessive. Even if skateboarding is banned in that area, I doubt it's even a misdemeanor. A citation at most. I think the way he reacted would be the equivalent of a full-on felony stop for not wearing your seatbelt or having a headlight out.
Was it within his power? Yes.
Was it a reasonable use of that power? I don't think so. But if he was doing what he was trained to do, then he isn't at fault. I think he definitely needs to brush up on his takedowns though because he's inept (at best) in that department.
True, the kids weren't supposed to be skateboarding there. True, one did run away. But that doesn't give him license to take down the other kids who were standing off to the side simply for being there. The charges should be dropped. If the cop knows what's good for him, he won't show up for court. his name is already all over the universe thanks to the video.
This guy reminds of Jeremy Morse, the Inglewood cop who picked up that kid and slammed him onto the trunk and then punched him in the face like 5 years ago. That guy got fired, then almost sent to jail and then he got paid for being discriminated against. Now THAT was fucked up.
On a sidenote, a thousand skaters skated through SF yesterday and the cops didn't arrest anyone. I don't think they even gave out any tickets. I love the SFPD. They've got better things to do than mess with kids skating or guys like me with modified exhausts.

It is idiotic people like you that the police officer is worried about. While is he detaining one individual that is not complying, he is probably worried about one of the the other skateboarders coming around to hit him.
Also if you couldn't tell, each one of the individuals the officer tried to restrain was not complying. 1. The officer had to tell the first kid to roll over more then once. Then the officer said he told the kid to stop and the kid did not comply. 2. Another kid runs off. 3. He told the girl to go sit down. Then when he moves towards her, she tries to run away. 4. Another kid yells at the officer when the officer tries to detain the girl. Then the officer has to take control of the idiotic kid.
All you idiots saying that they were just riding a skate board need to open up that pea brain you have between your ears. The world isn't so peachy behind your desk where you sharpen pencils all day. Some of you need to wake up and come out of your protected shell.

And the video, well...
It was funny seeing that one guy just run and run...and apparenly he didnt hurt anybody. Id take a choke hold in place for a: baton, mace, and a taser....they had their options...and i have a feeling this is going to be a good thread with very bad comments...lol
edit: and it says that she was trying to fight him..."she wasnt to worried about it when she wanted to fight"...They should'nt of tried to fight a cop or came close to him...thats tghe only reason the guy got in a choke hold...was b/c he walked uyp to the officer...So idk
Im kinda nuetral on this situation though....

Do you really think one of those kids was going to hit him? Talk about the pot calling the kettle black. He is the one who escalated the situation. I say he should pick his battles more wisely rather than flying off the handle over some stupid 50 dollar ticket.
They're KIDS. Name a kid that doesn't need to be told what to do more than once. Outside of the kid on the ground and the one who ran, the other kids were bystanders. Why didn't he arrest the other people standing off to the side watching? So what if they were yelling at him? Cops take lots of abuse, but if he can't take shit from kids he should find a different job.
This guy wasn't able to handle a couple kids. Imagine what he'd do if he showed up and tried to break up a drunken house party attended by adults his own size.
I think he's a bully. That's why I defend the skaters.

That was freaking ridiculous. I have no problem with law enforcement, but that cop definately went overboard. He could've handled that situation sooo much better than that, and as others have said, I'd hate to see just how badly he'd crack under REAL pressure.
Although, he IS a bicycle cop... That's pretty much the bottom of the police food chain, so the ones on the bikes tend to feel as though they have something to prove, even more-so than female CHP officers. :keke:
And for anyone wondering, yes, I used to skate, yes, I dealt with cops a lot (some cool, some assholes), but I never showed them disrespect unless they treated me like shit, in which case, I mouthed off, got "smart" with them, and usually wound up calling them on every one of their bluffs, thus making them feel even more silly. I was never once ticketed, beaten, maced, nor arrested.
My dad is a LA County Sheriff. My grandpa was a cop (Daytona, FL in the '40s). I was going to become one as well, but decided not to after seeing that most of my coworkers would be douchebags.

Something many people are too fucking dumb to do.
BUT I will say this.
If I was a cop, I would have just cuffed the kid.
And skateboarding isn't illegal.
It's just tresspassing.
If a business doesn't complain, you can skate their shit all day long in front of every cop in town. I've met plenty of cops who were fucking chiller than a dill pickle. I even saw a cop TAKE my friend's board and do a kickflip and hand it back to him.
Stop being fucking idiots and stereotyping everything. It's okay to have reserves about certain things but keep yourself open minded. Saying all cops are lame is like saying that all 240sx have Sportmax, or that all sr20 are turbocharged. Sure, lots of em do, but there are differences. true.
most cops are little bitches, but there are some that are very respectable authorities.

true that. My brother in law works at glen hellan(I think thats how its spelled) and he used to work on the streets, he was very nice. I've met some nice cops, just like in that show rob and big where the cop jumps on his board and does a 50/50 grind and tells them they got 3 more tries then they have to leave, and i've also met some cops who just out right tried to push me to the floor(just recently in hacienda). I guess it all depends on how many donuts they had that day.

Plus, he's a bike cop, as in bicycle. Isn't that where they put the farvas? Even AC Slater himself couldn't make bike cops seem cool.
Kids are capable of doing some crazy stuff these days. Was it not teenagers in the columbine high school shooting?
If those kids can talk smack to cops and walk away from them at this age, what will they be doing when they get older?
The video was obiously edited but it does show the kids being uncooperative and the officer trying to take control of the situation.

Some of you need to wake up and come out of your protected shell.
wow yeah I mean just look at how menacing those kids look Im sure that cop really had something to worry about....those kids were probably 17 and putting that girl in a head lock was completely unnecessary, fucking grab her arm or something, even still it was a bullshit reason to stop kids anyway. He should have just let them run, why chase them down and make a scene? Also like someone else said why didnt he just cuff the kids if it was that big of a deal instead of making it into a backyard wrestling match...those kids seriously dont look like a threat and if that guy feels threatened by a couple teenagers hes got a lot to learn....and dont talk about fucking office jobs man Im fucking 19 and from what Ive seen and cops that act like hard asses do no good and their attitudes are usually not necessary and only escalate the situation....Ive met some really cool cops and I understand that they have a job to do and most just want to go to work and come home, but Ive also been choke slammed by a cop for waiting for a ride...some good cops, lots of assholes, and I have no respect for the assholes

^^ as far as that...talk about speculation, thats like saying if you dont beat your kids they wont respect you...those kids werent "talking smack" they were making the point that he was being ridiculous....I dont think you should talk any different to a cop than you would to anyone else, sure they have the ability to hassle you but theyre not super humans, they dont automatically get respect with the badge they have to earn it like anyone else, they dont get a license to be a douche just cause they graduated from the police academy...fuck if anything im sure if that cop was cool and collected and handled the situation right as did every cop they came across Im sure the kids would grow up with more respect for the law and police then with that bad memory of being tossed around by an overweight cop sticking out......
and lol at being scared of teenagers, man up....Im a teenager and Im not scared of other teenagers....not to mention these cops carry mase batons hand cuffs and guns and radios to call for back up so that argument that kids are crazy and cops have to watch out is retarded...if your a grown man with all that equipment and your afraid of 17 year olds you should find a new line of work

Why chase them down? Because they were running away. If those kids were such outstanding citizens, why would they try to run away? Why not just listen to the officer? I can't say what he would have done if they would have listened the first time. However, the reason the officer gave to the kids for arresting them was for resisting arrest among other things.
If you look closely at the video, the officer tells the girl to sit down. Then it gets edited to what looked like him trying to choke her. You can also see her trying to get away. What was there before the edit? Maybe he did try other means to detain her and it wasn’t working. There is more to the story then what is being shown.
It isn't about being scared; it is about using the proper amount of force necessary to take control of a situation. The officer may have a gun, mace, baton, etc. However, he still has to follow standard operation procedures. A smart officer isn't going to pull out his gun for some kids talking smack, nor is using mace in that situation necessary.

Yes Klebold and Harris were teenagers. And OJ is black. So what? That doesn't mean that they were going to do anything. Just because I have an exhaust doesn't automatically mean that I am going to race on the street or have my own sideshow in a school zone.
And what do you mean by talking smack and walking away? Ever hear of the first amendment? Besides, they weren't threatening him, they were saying "let him go." He was being unreasonable, do you expect them to just take it? Would you sit by and take it if a cop went off on you or your friends?
It would be one thing if we were talking about these kids assaulting Williams. But they were just standing around. And true, we didn't see what happened prior to the beginning of the video, but that argument doesn't justify Williams doing what he did because that would be in regards to the kids already cuffed on the ground. Whatever he did must have warranted the cuffs. What we are talking about is the two kids he put in a headlock and the cameraman (who clearly maintained a safe distance from Williams).
If these kids were such a threat, why didn't Williams' partner (the one with a helmet on) intervene much earlier? He only became involved once Williams ordered him to arrest the others. If Williams was so threatened, why didn't he pull his asp or use pepper spray? I mean besides threatening to use it on someone who isn't already handcuffed. Academies have scenario tests for a reason. So you don't foul up like this on the street.
I'd like to see him try that on a grown man.

I do feel his pain with those lil bastards, but i don't feel he did the right thing.
yeah but the kids were under pressure too, and the way they reacted seemed normal for a scared/rebel teenager.
the officer got too excited because the kids were getting excited, but they got excited because he put them in an uncomfortable position, so it was his fault they ran and resisted him, they thought they were innocent. i mean, they were just skateboarding; seriously
he couldve just been like "wow i dont want to make a big scene theyre just skateboarding, go home kids"

Every one of those kids resisted arrest, end of story. The only one to comply and did what was asked was the one with the camera.
