I know a s14 is a 95-98 240sx.  the car slightly changed in 97 as we all know..... my question is... is a 95-96 called an s14a? and a 97-98 called a s14b?  i thought i saw that somewhere and I just wanted to make sure. thanks

Actually it is the other way around. s14a for after minor change and s14b for before. People also call the 97-98's s14mc for minor change. In Japan they call them zenki for early and kouki for later. None are offical Nissan chassis codes. But if you use any most will get what you are talking about.

Zenki is so much cooler than Kouki (names wise).  I have a 96 which is Zenki.  Other than the minor exterior changes, the only difference is that the S14a is much more sensitive to changes in its system.  Minor things will throw codes in an s14a.
