Alright in the process of building my head I lost a washer for the ARP head studs so I just went to homedepot and got another of similar size. This is ok right? I mean I torqued the head down all perfectly and there was enough threading on the studs even with the washer being slightly thinner. Just want to make sure this is ok cause its my first engine build and I want this puppy running reliable.

as long as the diameter and thicknesses are the same, and it's not a brake/banjo bolt washer, you should be fine.

They should have "grades" on them. Match those up.

if the washer changes dimensions under heat or pressure more than its supposed to, you can fuck up your head.

Call ARP and ask them. They can probably get you a replacement or tell you what you CAN replace it with.
Don't band-aid your mistakes. They'll fuck you in the asshole later.

I'm with evan here, different types of metal will react differnt to pressure and heat. so it may not be a big deal, but given that evan has lots of experience with being fucked in the hoo hoo I'd take his advice.

do not, put home depot hardware in your head. take the time to find another arp washer. there is a whole lot riding on the hope that you head will say down. not worth trying to experiment on this one. all the different parts of the arp stuff are tested to react with each other. would be like using a nut you found laying around on an arp stud. not gonna work out very well.
