View Full Version : S13 Grip Racing - 17x9 +20 with rolled fender - tire sizes?

Hey all,

I'm looking at purchasing some FN01R-C for my S13 SE hatch. They will be 17x9s and the offset is +20.

The paint on this car is outstandingly good, and as such I don't want to risk ruining it with pulling the fenders. Rolling the fenders is not an issue, that is something I can do.

I am trying to figure out what size tires I can run on these wheels without running into too much trouble. I will be using Stance GR+Pro or Stance GR+ coilovers, I haven't quite decided which yet.

I have scoured the Wheel Fitment thread, and the "Master Guide for Buying Wheels" thread.

As much as a crazy drop can look great, I will be aiming to build this thing for grip, with looks coming second.

If anyone has any suggestions, I would really appreciate them. I am thinking of something along the lines of 235/40/R17s all the way around (if I can manage).

Thanks all,
Luke :bigok:

you'll be fine with just a roll in the back, but you'll need a crazy roll with like 215/40s in the front unless you want to pull the fronts a little, or be a man and get widebody fronts (but then you'll want a 10mm spacer to get it to look right).

235/40/17 would fit easily

245/40/17 might take a little working on the coilovers and fender roll, but not that much effort

my setup is 17x9 in the rear with 17X7.5 in front. 235/40/17 in front, 255/45/17 in rear, rear has the fender rolls. front fitment is fine. all on gramlights 57S with federal 595. last about 4 track days (grip not drift)

245/40/17 should fit up front without too much issue. Pound the fender lip flat, run a lot of camber (-2.5 or more), and don't slam it and you should be fine.

also when you put the wheels on and drop it, make sure u move the wiring harness in the wheel well before hand, or you will be surely sorry when wires get rubbed raw in that harness and u have to redo it.

you can just move it up higher under the fender or be gangster and pull it behind the firewall but thats a lot more work.

Thank you all for the responces. I did see the write-up on relocating the power harness, which is first on my list of things to do.

So general concensus is 245/40/R17s will fit front and rear on a +20 offset with some fender rolling action, as long as I don't dump the thing. Since I live in Maine, dumping isn't exactly an option, (bad roads) so I should be alright.

Aftermarket fenders aren't an option at the moment, since the paint is so good that it's not worth it to me to run ghetto styleee until I have the money for real/perfect matched paint.

Current alignment goal is -2.5* front and -2.0* rear with perhaps 1/32 to 1/16 toe in the front and 0 in the rear. I will do more research and playing around with alignment once I get the suspension in.

Thanks again for the quick and good replies.

was this a typo? or did everyone else lie ;)

on freshalloy. nikeboy355 did the exact same thing and put up pics as well as what fitment issues he ran into and how he fixed them. just search under threads he made.

Thanks for the tip. While I search for that I must ask, will 245/45/R17s be significantly larger comared to the 245/40/R17s for our chassis? Reason I ask is the one of the tires I want comes in either 235/40 and 245/45, but not 245/40.

Off to fresh alloy...

You don't want to ever run 245/45 on the front of an s13. It is super tall and will cause lots of clearance issues. That size diameter will result in frame rail rubbing. You can bang on the front fender tubs for more clearance up there, but not much you can do if you are contacting the frame rail.

Alright, sounds good. 235/40 or 245/40, not 245/45.

FreshAlloy forums are down. :(

there is almost a full inch difference in overall height from 245/40 to 245/45

Looks like I will be running Hankook R-S2s, which means I'll be on a 235/40/R17 tire. At least that settles that problem. :)

That's way different than a 9 +20, but it's still cool you fit a 255 on there ~

I run 8.5 +20 and wanted to run 245/40 on the back and 225/40 on the front, but ended up running 225/40 on the back (feddys are wide) and 215/40 on the front. When I mounted the wheels up with stock bodywork, it didn't look like any amount of rolling would get em to fit in the front (which wasn't bad news for me), so I put on my wide fenders and with a 10mm spacer they're uber flush. That's why I didn't think you'd be able to fit 17x9 +20 without the wide fenders, but hey if others have done it, best of luck to ya ~

BTW 235/40 will make tucking much easier :) nice choice.

I run 17x9 +20 with 245-40-17s all around... fits perfectly...
I rolled my fenders but you can get away without it... I just wanted to keep my car lower...

I highly recommend 245s over 235s...
