I have a 1990 S13 SE with the Redtop SR in it with about 40k miles. I have JIC magic coilovers, Kouki tail lights and a bunch of other stuff. The thing is I always get pulled over and I've been lucky recently and haven't gotten any tickets. The car is sanded and primered (you can see it in my sig). Now what I am asking is, Should I trade my car for a 1995 S14 SE with 70k and just an exhaust? I was thinking about it because I mean I live in NH and the coilovers are a pain in the ass to get around some places and my car isn't even in than nice of shape. I mean no rust, but no paint looks shitty and I don't have the money to paint it. Just wondering what you guys thought, S14's are real hard to come by around here. Here are some pics! LMK :bigok:

A clean paint job will definitely help with that situation. They are probably pulling you over because you're driving around primered and you stick out. Save up and you're good to go.

I think it might also be the want to start a new project with something different..I've had the S13 up for sale for a while now, a lot of offers but no one seemed to follow through with it. I've had a lot of offers to trade for civics and there is no way in hell I would drive one. When this S14 popped up, I figured it would be a good idea. I mean already know enough about 240's to do another swap if i wanted to, or I could try out the ka-t route. Possibilities are endless. I think I'm just getting sick of the car I have now...

But yeah Flipzide - I really think it would help out the situation as well, they haven't said anything to me about having no paint, but I'm sure they are thinking, 'Let's pull over the kid with no paint and slam him with a ticket so he still can't get paint!'

Yes, I understand that. But looking at the two cars how they sit now, the S13 is more likely to be pulled over. I'm sure the s14 will have mods done, but at least I will have a painted car and it wont look so..rigged

Well here's my thing...if you trade your 13 for a S14 w/ exhaust...what kind of exhaust? A loud 3' exhaust on a KA would be your next down fall since thatll attract cops to that car. I bet if your car is quiet, even primered, they wouldnt really fuck with you as much. Exhaust is always the first thing that attracts cops.

Thanks for the input guys and the random talk too, haha. The car was put up for 6000 and now it is down to 5000..Let me get the list of parts that I used on craigslist. My bad ahead of time for sounding like an idiot in the description, but I had to get it to sell.

And i put that link to show you that a 100$ paint job really does exist with good intentions also...So i'd spare the 100 and paint it...then sell it...then buy a stock s14 for about 3k...and you could have 2-3k to spend on it..:)

You make a good point sir, Haha. Hmm, maybe I should rethink this. Yes, the S14 is in GREAT shape, only has 70k on the stock motor. But, this is really the first S14 I've seen for sale in or around NH, that hasn't been like fully modded. I think I might just be sick of working on the S13 and it's just that I want to get rid of it and the fact that my parents are up my ass about the S13..

I mean the past month or so of me trying to sell it, I have been so anxious to just get it off my hands. I can't really daily drive the car, especially not on these NH roads. I can't drive to some friends houses and am constantly looking for rides and/or taking my moms car places. It sucks. I just want something I can drive around but I still want a 240. I mean I've done my work, and I've learned a ton about swaps and everything. And if I traded I could try a different setup, something that will work with where I live. Yeah, I could just sell my JIC's and get springs, but the S13.. I don't know, I just think it is time for some change. Finish what you started, or repair what you damaged. Seriously man, if you render your s13 close to a normal functioning car you'll soon find out that they aren't that bad when it comes to fuel consumption or looks. With that given, you can have your daily driver, and also save for another potential project. I have no Idea why getting another car would help your situation whatsoever, especially since you claim to have done multiple swaps and other work on the s13 chassis. From personal experience I have found that such tasks that seem so hard to complete (i.e. getting paint) can almost stop you dead on, but if you just stick it out and get it done the reward is that much greater on a personal level.
If you hate the car, by all means sell it, but I doubt the car will attract a lot of attention in the state it is in unless you turn it around for cheap, and doing so would only hurt what a paint job and a few tweaks could have repaired. Overall I'm seeing a lack of TLC for your car just by the picture in your signature. I can totally relate with currently buying a hatch for $750, and seeing all the rice work done to my car; the stripped bolts, the A/C that smells like cat piss, the badly wired stereo. It's things like this that you look back on in a montage like fashion and say "This USED to be such a pile of shit". Just this once, I beg of you to keep it, fix it, and not to dispose of it cause you are having love issues with it.

It's all about profit this day in age...So thats why I would paint it...then easily sell it for about 6.5k....maybe 7k...who knows? But I just think if he painted the car then he'd appriacate it more...as far as the S14 route...he can do that...I dont care what he does....but he's asking for opinions and we're giving them....and there's my opinion

I would try to trade with cash as mentioned or sell your S13 and buy the S14. That S14 is already 5-lug, and the KA is really cool when boosted. And I think you could be happy with getting just some springs or something instead of coilovers. I have just Eibachs and I am satisfied for now. Well... until I move in a couple weeks, the roads there are flat and smooth and then coilovers are gonna look more enticing... I think the only downfall will be the performance. Going from modified SR to stock KA.

My S13 is the only 240 swap I've done, and it wasn't very hard at all. I haven't had one problem with the car since I've done the swap. I'll agree the car does mean a lot to me, seeing as how I put so much time and effort and money into it. The thing is..around here, these cars don't sell fast. Even with paint I don't think I could get 6-7k like you are saying. I have people coming to look at the car saying that they can paint it and that they are happy I have sanded it, so that they have the choice. And then they turn around and offer me 3k for it.

I'm done trying to sell the car now. I've been trying for 2 months and not one serious offer. Just a bunch of trades for lame riced out civics or random jeeps, etc. This S14 was the only thing that appealed to me; and so what if I'm at loss a little bit. Can't make a profit on everything you do. If I trade though, I think I will be happier in the end. A car that I can daily drive, will be very good on gas, won't have to worry about driving it places and bottoming out, and once again I will have all my options open to do whatever I want to the car and have fun again with another project!

i still only see you complaining about 3 things

1 from what i've seen a stock sr should get about the same mileage as a ka as long as you don't get on it

2 personally i hate that color s14. i own one. shit is like 12 years old and needs a paint job anyway. a cheap single stage spray looks fine and it'll last for a few years.

3. you can sell your coilovers and use the money to buy shocks and springs. or hell, you can pick up stock suspension for like 20 bucks (or free) on the forums. voila you can drive it around again.

if you're just worried about bottoming out, you could just raise the car. just because you have coilovers doesn't mean you have to be zilvia low.

Plain and simple, do what you can afford. Do it right. If you cant have the luxury of changing cars without minimal sacrafice then just wait it out. Prioritize your things and just wait until your positive the time is right for change. Dont always think that thats the best deal out there and you NEED to jump on it right away.

There is more to just those 3 things that I dislike about the car. To me it's just not an everyday car. I would love to keep it and use it as a track car and what not, but I don't have the money to do so. Maybe it's just the S13 style I'm getting sick of, but I don't want to sell the coilovers and get stock suspension, which I already have lying around.

Haha. Yeah, I searched and 70k miles isn't too bad. So my friend wants to go take a look at it.

Funny story. My friend and I were really bored one day so we decided to call a bunch of dealerships and ask if we could test drive some cars. And seeing as how we aren't 18 they said that we would have to have a parent with us. So we kept calling and calling and eventually we got it so that a few places would let us test drive the cars. So we went over a Volkswagen dealership and I actually got to test drive an R32! Haha. I told the guy that my parents were rich and that they were buying me a new car and that they told me to go and find something that I liked. I told the guy that they would be in the next day to pay in cash. So, off to the next place we went; Mitsubishi. And I told the same bullshit story to the salesman and he took us out for a ride in an Evo MR. I was so stoked and this car was so fast! I finally convinced the guy to pull over and let me take it for a spin and it was amazing! After that we went to Subaru to try and get them to let me drive an STI, but they said that STi's are too rare and that they weren't positive if I could drive good enough. I didn't like that guy very much, haha. That was a pretty good day, and thats why I love test driving cars, lol. Sorry for the off-topic story, but yeah.

Well I had a lot of fun driving my S13 yesterday, haven't driven it like that in a while...the kid with the S14 lost the title and now has to get another one, so I'm backed up another 5 days. This gives me more time to think about what I want to do. I'm going to price out all the parts I need to "finish" the S13 and see what I can do money wise. It could be a very nice car..Idk haha. LOL...yea...wheels can make any car look good...So even if its in primer and you still get wheels you'd love it....also, id look into the roll on paint...I havnt seen it done in real life...But do some research through MOPAR, they did a real detailed article on it. So about 2k will make your car SWEET!

well I'm still waiting to here from the guy with the S14 about the title..but in the mean time I've talked to my parents and they might be helping me finish my car. They said that they would like to see me finish it since I've put so much work into it already. Seeing as how I work 2 jobs, I do make quite a bit of money, so they said they might be willing to lay out the cash for me to finish my car... (paint, body kit, rims, cf hood, wide-body fenders etc...basically whatever I would want to do to it) But I would just have to pay them back over-time. This is just an idea floating around, but if I can do it then I am definitely going to finish my car! I'll let you guys know when I hear from the guy with the S14!

Recent decision; I want to finish the car.. and I might be able to get the money too soon. But if not then I need something else, cause I need a car I can drive no matter what the weather is like. But anyways, my buddy convinced me to take it to a show today. And despite the no paint, I got two trophies! My first show ever. I won Best Nissan and Best swap! Pretty pumped about that! There we're a couple other 240's but no swaps done to them and they only had like lame ass rims. They were S13's too btw. There was one Sentra, but apparently the judges liked my S13 better!! And for swaps there were a few b22 civics but I took home the victory! Woo!

I would say stick with s13 you know Ithe little things that are wrong with it. The S14 is a new car but no swap and no coilovers and you can always sell coilovers depending on what brand and how long you used them for on your car. It sucks when you restart a bulid almost from the ground up.

Yeah, sorry about that, I didn't mean b22. Haha. But yeah, it was pretty cool taking home some trophies! A nice little victory burnout was pretty entertaining too, got all the people cheering and kind of started a trend because then the fwd burnouts from civics began, Haha. eastcoastS14- There are local shows going on all the time around the Portsmouth Area and most of them get pretty big. This one got pretty big and there were about 200 cars, it was like Import Wars at NE dragway! I will send you a pm next time I know of a show so you can come up!!

Just wanted to let you all know that I am planning on keeping my S13 and I'm going to finish it. Any ideas will be taken into consideration! I kind of have an idea about how It want to do it but I'm not completely sure. Any ideas on rims, body-kit, fenders, hood, paint etc. will be taken a look at. I know this is my car, but sometimes I haven't seen certain things others have and I may like them more. But I will post pics along the way of the build! Thanks again for all your help guys!
